I’ll tell you why I’m not protesting for Cannon Hinnant [choir-preaching itt]

One of the curses of having diverse hobbies is that I have acquaintances with diverse opinions.

Diverse opinions aren’t a curse, of course. I should rewrite that.

One of the curses of having diverse hobbies is that some of the people I practice those hobbies with are fucking morons.

Recently, the hashtag “#SayHisName” has been popping up on my Facebook timeline and Reddit feed attached to content about a young man who was murdered. Cannon Hinnant was murdered by his neighbor Darius Sessoms, and the murderer was promptly arrested. Although almost all of these posts are linked to news articles, they all strangely insist that the media is refusing to cover the story because it “doesn’t fit the narrative” of white-on-black violence since the murderer is black and the victim is white. Some say that this should be national news. Of course, this is senseless, tragic, and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

All this overlooks something really simple.

Senseless murders of individuals aren’t usually national news, you fucking tool.

The #BlackLivesMatter protests aren’t about a single crime, you fucking tool.

That George Floyd and Breonna Taylor are used as the faces of the protest movement doesn’t stem from their race. It stems from the fact that for too long in the United States the attitude has been that the police can kill whomever they want and get away with it. It’s about institutionalized abuse of power without consequences.

What some of these morons seem to hear, though, is that White People Bad. This says more about their lack of empathy and comprehension than anything else.

The shooting of Cannon Hinnant was evil and criminal. The perpetrator was arrested and will be tried for the crime. There’s no institutionalized injustice here. No one is protecting Darius Sessoms from the consequences of his actions.

So what’s taking them so long with Breonna Taylor?

Think about the answer to that question and maybe you’ll understand why I’m not out protesting the murder of Cannon Hinnant.

You fucking tool.

Ask them what they are protesting for. What actions/policy changes do they want to occur? Other than “nobody should murder”, what change do they want to occur?

From what I have seen and heard, the only things they seem to want is for people to stop talking about issues that make them uncomfortable and focus on demonizing minorities.

Exactly. As if the murder of a 5 year old white boy by a grown black man is somehow not sensational enough to make it onto the mainstream news media, despite whatever “agendas” they’re supposed to have.

The main thing here is that single murders are typically not national news, even when they’re white on black, black on white, or whatever. What does make it on the news is when a child is murdered, and if there’s an element of racial animus or some degree of craziness, then that’s just icing on the cake.

But even at that, it has to burble up from the local news outlets before the CNNs of the world are even going to be aware of it, then investigations have to be made, sources vetted, stories written and then published before anyone sees it on the national news. That takes several days, in my experience of seeing stuff happen here in Dallas (a major city) on say… Monday, it being covered that day or the following day locally, and then it makes the national news outlets on like Thursday or Friday. Maybe if it’s an emerging news story, then it gets covered in real-time, but that’s like 1% of stories. The rest are usually several days out from when it happened.

This is just the same thing here- no “agendas” or liberal spin involved.

I saw his pushed by those who got caught up in the pedo distraction. But then I also saw the pushback of those saying “You know, there was a big manhunt and his killer was found right away and put in jail. That didn’t happen for these black people. I wonder what the difference is?”

Not long after that, the hashtags died out. Because, oddly enough, my Facebook wall is a mixture of three things: people complaining about maskholes, people pushing the pedo thing, and the protests/black lives matter. And there are a lot of people pushing more than one or even all three.
