I-lookup.com How do I get rid of this?

I am sorry for creating another thread of this type in GQ, but you folks know everything, so I am hoping you can help.

I can not get rid of this thing, I have adaware 6, I have sat here and run it 7 times, each time I run it it finds ‘cydoor’ and ‘whenusave’ in the regkey and deletes it. This is obviously not working.

Can I get rid of it? Or do I need to haul the coomputer in somewhere to have someone smarter than me deal with it?

Thanks all for any help.

Oops, I have Windows XP Pro. Should have mentioned that.

Ad Aware does kill cydoor, so you must be either A) running it wrong, or B) running an older version.

Try this:
Make sure you have the most recent version. IIRC it should be v. 5. After you run your scan and it finds the problem programs, you have to click ‘continue’. Then you’ll see the list of the programs. You MUST be sure you click the checkmak box next each you want to delete, then click ‘continue’. If you dobn’t have those checkmarks there, it won’t delete anything. The first few times I ran it, I missed that part; I don’t think it’s explained all that well.

I just downloaded it, but it is the free version, could that be the problem? I did make sure that the box was checked.

You might also want to try Spybot Search & Destroy. Easy to use freeware. Between that and Ad-Aware, it’s almost impossible for anything to sneak in.

Actually, the latest version of AdAware is 6.0, and the latest reference file is 0R140, dated 19-05-2003.

Thanks all for your help.

And thank-you muchly ** D.E.S.K.Top668** spybot got it!

Here’s what ya do.

#1. Find WhenUSave folders ( or just “Save” folders); get their Properties and uncheck the Read-Only box. Trash em. Also check for Gator, WeatherCast, BackWeb, Date Manager, Precision Time, IPInsight, and other naughty little spies. (the old alt-control del trick will open up the Task List bar let you see if you have any spyware running. If it’s running, it won’t let you delete it.)

#2. Get Ashampoo Uninstaller Suite from http://www.download.com and turn on Expert Mode. Destroy ALL traces of that horrid thing from the system tree.

#3. Get Ace Utilities to clean up your history and destroy your invalid registration keys just to make sure.

#4. Run Ad-Aware again.

#Go to “Privacy” in IE and go to “Edit…” , Add the site to the “Blocked” list.
