Thank you, folks. I was lucky to be able to get a backhoe guy out on Saturday and bury him right away, so I didn’t have to worry about vultures or coyotes. Grace, his companion, seems to be settling - she had time with his body so she at least isn’t wondering where he went. I really don’t want to buy another horse at my age (63). I could get a senior horse, but frankly, the majority of the expense is in their last few years. It’s just strange when you’re used to caring for something for that long. There’s a hole in my time that was taken up with him.

Would Grace accept a companion of another species, who might be easier for you to care for?
So sorry for your loss. 30 years is a long time to have a companion baby. My friend is a “horse girl” and her horses are her life. I visit from time to time and they are the sweetest creatures!
Peace to you.
Grace might like a pony. Or a pair of goats. I recommend it. Everyone needs a friend.
The neighbor up the road has a horse and a donkey, and said if Grace is unhappy alone, I can bring her there. I’m waiting to see how she does.

I’m so sorry. He was a beautiful boy.
So sorry to hear about Irish. I remember him from that post, long ago, where we watched a foal be born via webcam and we named him Squirmy. The owner even gave him that as his barn name. I remember him from other posts of your over the years. RIP Irish.
