While I’m not the oldest of my cousins on either side:

  1. On one side I’m the oldest who is still in touch with the family in general and has children. So I am now the “heir” to various memorabilia which gets passed my way.

  2. In the other I am the only surviving male-line cousin so something similar is going on.

Let me tell you, I got a lot of cousins and, based on birth order way back when, ending up in this situation was unlikely. But stuff happens.

I just was thinking about this last night. My grandmother was actually one of seven children, but she and her brother were the only adult survivors. The other five all died as small children back in Hungary. So, my great-aunt/uncle pool started out pretty low.
