I carry a pager so that temporary agencies can contact me (not that they have, but that’s another story.)
Anyway, yesterday I had it in my coat pocket when I went to my book club at Barnes & Noble, and I know it was in there at 8:45 because I felt it through the fabric.
This morning, though, when I looked in the pocket it wasn’t there!
It must have fallen out either while I was sitting in an armchair at the store or on the bus on the way home.
I already submitted a claim on WMATA’s Lost and Found area of their website, and the only thing left is to retrace my steps and see if it’s at the store.
If I don’t get it back I’m sunk! I’d have to stay home all day, every day, until Verizon mails me a new one, with no Internet connection because there’s only one phone line.
There’s nothing whatsoever on Verizon Wireless’ site about how much it might cost to replace a lost pager. And I have only a few hundred left in my savings, so I can’t afford to spend much money.
Are you finished throwing things at me, God? Are you??
Have you tried sending your pager a page with your home phone number on it? (And, if it’s a text pager, a brief message stating your plight.) Maybe someone has found it and will call you back.
…or maybe nobody has found it yet, but (if you send it a page) someone will look into what’s making that strange beeping noise, find it, and call you back.
Maybe you should consider getting a pager watch from Timex?, they have them from $29 to $69. Sometimes they come with a free year of skytel service (I can’t find that deal at the moment, might be with some on ebay.com) here is one watch: http://www.timex.com/bin/detail.tmx?item=650044900615
I lost my pager a couple years ago.
I continually paged it with my home phone number and “911” tagged on to the end. A few hours later, someone finally called it the number, said that he found the pager and we made arrangements for me to retrieve it.
He was a super nice guy that even turned down the $20 I tried to give him as a thank you.
So hey, you never know. Keep trying to page it and maybe someone will give you a call back.
So try a straight phone-number page from your phone. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize, “Hey, this pager just got a page. Maybe I should call this number?”
Sorry, Harli. It’s too late to do that now because I called Verizon first thing Monday morning and they’re sending me a new one; it should be here tomorrow.
It will be, when the replacement gets here (and providing that it works properly (crosses fingers)).
I just hope I didn’t miss any important calls today. I stayed home yesterday, but I get serious cabin fever and had to leave the house today. (Spent the day at the GMU library, plus enjoyed walking to the Metro station in the snow.)
