I have already introduced you to the fluffy fella in pictorial form but his attractiveness is not just in his coat. He will play fetch until I am too exhausted to continue. Sparkle balls are his favourite thing to be thrown but pretty much anything he can pick up to bring back is on the menu. He initiates games by dropping them in or on whatever I am looking at at the time, often my coffee. He will drop things over and over with a thud until I comply. When he is sick of the game he will put them away quite deliberately out of his reach under furniture or appliances. Where they wind up seems to change on a monthly basis, currently we need a daily sweep under one bedside cabinet in the spare bedroom.
Despite the fact he is now over the 5kg mark he will fly across the room and land on my shoulder and stay there for as long as I am doing the activity he is interested in, he particularly likes to supervise me while I do dishes. Anything with water is attractive to him, he always jumps into the shower recess when I step out of it, he has joined me in the bath more than once and he likes to inspect any dishes in the sink regularly.
At night he becomes a fierce hunter of feet, if heading to the toilet at 3 am I must be prepared for warfare. Water pistols for self defence are essential, there is nothing worse than forgetting and being trapped in no mans land knowing that the next move you make may well be the last before bloodshed.
When he feels my attention is being drawn too strongly by the TV he will sit upon it, look straight at me, raise a paw, waggle his bum defiantly and hit the telescopic antenna until it falls. Should I rise from my chair he runs away, he will be back once I am settled. He has learned this is a water pistol free zone. He gets terribly upset when I am reading a book, watching a video, DVD or playing a PS2 game and his antenna tricks have no effect. When I am on the computer he will use my leg as a scratching post to let me know he needs attention and he will curl around my neck for hours watching the screen with me.
His very silly tail is perpetually in the air like a periscope which I understand is a sign of a happy and confident cat. He really is lovely and full of character though stubborn as hell and quick with a nip that means he needs to be excluded when kids are over. When I go out he sits in the window and rolls with delight when he sees me returning before rushing to the door and demanding a cuddle and I think if you live alone there is little that feels better than a grand excited reception.
