I will be totally honest and say that when I first stumbled upon the SDMB, I was debating whether or not I should actually register. You guys all seemed intelligent and well-spoken, and I thought, with my posts amongst yours, I’d sound unintelligent. You see, I can’t write essay-long posts that are also entertaining. Maybe with a few years…
Eventually, I signed up. I did not make an “I’m new!” thread, thinking you guys would look down on that kind of thing and mark me as a poster that would not last more than a month.
I don’t really have a presence here, but I think I’ve comfortably settled in, thanks to the kindness of the Dopers.
I registered on another forum a few days ago (I visit far too many, and I don’t know why I registered) and after one post, I don’t even know if I’m going to post again. They weren’t rude or anything, but they weren’t welcoming either. I browsed the other subforums to see if there was a place I could be a better fit in, but I didn’t find anything.
It seems like there’s a place for almost everyone here. That’s why I like it. You’re all so welcoming too, which I appreciate. You give people a chance and don’t ignore or taunt posters who don’t type in proper caps, or for other unimportant things like that.
Well, given what happened with the last few initiations (the squid, the Monster Bread, and the “Death Rays” being only the beginning), I’m not sure we should have another initiation. At least until we figure out how to handle the inevitable …‘incursions’.
hehehe. I was watching Toys the other day and my 32 year old future sister in law was reading a book next to me. She looked up just in time to see a c**** like toy filling the whole large screen. She shrieked and jumped so high she spilled her coffee in her lap Of course, she also elbowed me in my back, right above my recent surgery incision so I got my comeuppance for laughing at her
I also love this place. I always know that if I’m in a bad mood, someone here will make me laugh til I cry. The best though is when my fiancee calls me from work to direct me to a thread because reading it made him snarf his coffee (big coffee drinkers in his family).
