I Love the Scissor Sisters.

I rarely listen to the radio or watch MTV. My music listening is almost exclusively my CDs or club music. I never know what the club music is so I don’t normally get new music from that source. My source for new music tends to be recommendations from friends or if I hear something I like on a television or movie soundtrack. MrVisible has given me a couple of good suggestions here, also.

A week or two ago there were several threads complaining about this group on SNL covering Comfortably Numb with a disco remix. I was intrigued and found a clip online. I just got the CD from Amazon today and I’m completely in love with this group.

Take Your Mama is my immediate favorite. It’s captures the denial of so many mothers when their sons quit dating women and come out of the closet. The remedy suggested is to “take your mama out all night”. That would be so much fun to take my in-denial mother out to The Complex or Freddie’s and watch the drag shows and go-go dancers.

So I want to say “Thank You” to all you nay-sayers for turning me onto this band.

Doesn’t anyone else like the Scissor Sisters?

Hey, they’re on my best of 2004 list, so yeah, I like 'em, too!

“Take Your Mama” out is easily the stand-out single on that album, and was played incessantly here in Chicago over the summer. Funny enough, I learned of this band while watching Elton John’s interview on the—dare I admit this—John McEnroe show in the late spring. Elton recommended them as well as the band Dogs Die in Hot Cars (which I didn’t care for so much, but it does have that disco backbeat reminiscent of the Scissor Sisters.) You might also want to check out bands like The Futureheads or Franz Ferdinand if you like this sort of disco-y rock music.

That cover of “Comfortably Numb”…well, to me, it’s an abomination. Maybe if they’d never committed such a wretched act I might have been able to give them a chance, but I fear I’m too embittered. Damn them. Damn them all to Hell.

They’re my favorite band of the moment.

I got a UK version of their album; I’m not sure if the US version has the extra tracks. My favorite is “Skins”. “Laura” is another, and “Comfortably Numb” of course. The whole thing is good.

On this UK version, there’s a message from Ana Matronic, and every time I play it with my young sons in the car, we all crack up. It says “after you hear this sound, you can start the album again or listen for additional tracks”. Then there’s a sound of people screaming in terror on a roller coaster.

Count me as a fan! I first heard of them through an article of upcoming summer songs and I’ve been hooked since. “Mary” is one of my favorites that hasn’t been mentioned here yet.

Fantastic song - I am going to buy the CD today with my gift voucher.

I don’t like them. I saw them on Conan once and thought they were crap. Earlier this month some friends and I went to see Jason Boland at the Granada Theater in Lawrence and I saw a sign for the upcoming Scissor Sisters show there. I just kept thinking how much I thought they sucked on Conan.

But, however, maybe they are good and I just didn’t like them because I heard them live. Then again I don’t really listen to anything other than country.

Well, that might have something to do with it.

Yeah, that’s bright, write off a band because they did a cover you hate of a song you like. Genius. Because CD players don’t. like, let you skip tracks or anything.

“Filthy/Gorgeous” is my favorite track of the handful I’ve heard. There’s a remix of “Mary” that I liked when I first heard it but this station I listen to overplayed it and I’ve heard it often enough for one lifetime.

Their performances on SNL grabbed me by the neck… I kept meaning to get the album, but didn’t until today.

Love it. Love them. Love Jake, the lead singer. Too gay to function, and I love it.

I’ve already bought tickets to see them here on Jan. 16.

{Grumpy Old Codger Mode: Engaged} I’ve only heard Take Your Mama, and it just sounds like an old Faces track circa 1972. Not that that’s the worst musical sin that’s currently being perpetrated, but it’s hardly groundbreaking.

I don’t think anyone is claiming the Scissor Sisters to be groundbreaking. Hell, most of their stuff sounds like 70s disco crossed with Elton John. But it’s fun, it’s danceable, and it doesn’t take itself too seriously. Not every record need be revolutionary.

It was the best-selling album of 2004 in the UK, so yes, they do have a fan or two.

I did warn you that GOCM had been engaged.
