I Love Thespians

I went to district thespain compeitions yesterday. It was so much fun. Thespians are so much more free and open than a lot of other people. I met so many people and they also seem to be much more affectionate.

After that I went to my school production of Mame (which was sold out and I barely managed to get tickets to). It was great, as usual, because the costumes and sets came directly out of out school president’s wallet.

It’s things like this that make me really wish I had talent.

You said ‘thespians’ – huh huh huh huh. I hear that andygirl is a thespian. Thespians rule – huh huh huh huh.

So, hypergirl, are you a thespian or do you just pretend to be one?

I like thespians. Except for ugly thespians, like Ellen DeGeneres.

As a matter of fact, I am. Troupe 1321.

Or were you referring to something else? <innocence>

When I got my first part in a play, I went around my house screaming “I am a thespian!” It appealed to my sense of irony, as I was closeted at the time.

In closing, always remember that Thespians do it on stage.

I’m not a thespian, but I play one on tv…

well, not really, but it was fun to say

Seriously, are you really a thespian or this is just [jon lovitz]ACTING[/jon lovitz]?

Me be Thespian. Me be outta practise, tho’. Me not done it for many year.

Geez, I’d hope I could act better than Jon Lovitz…

But, honestly, no, I’m not a thespian. I’m an engineer with the occassional unrealized longing to be some sort of artist…

You do have talent. It just might not be in acting. If you love theatre, there are many skills and needs for a production outside of acting. Lighting, Sound, Costumes (can you sew? Theatre troupes are always desperate for costume builders.), Scenic Artists, Electricians, Carpenters, Painters, Box Office Personel, Graphic Artists (For programs, advertising, etc.), Administrators, Stage Managers, Running Crew (Stagehands who move things, pull curtains, hand props to actors, etc.), Make Up Artists, Directors, Drivers, Runners, Gofers, P.R. specialists, Photographers, etc, etc, etc.

Every theatre troupe needs these people to help with a successful production. If you like the people in theatre, offer your services to the local community theatre. They will be very glad to have your help. In many theatres, the behind the scenes peoplpe get more respect from the actors because they know you make it possible for them to be able to perform. I know, I’ve done almost all of the above except make-up.

I also started at the community theatre level. Now, I am a professor of theatre arts and a respected professional in the Houston area. I get so many requests for my services I can not accept them all.

And the parties are the best! I still remember one that the second time the police came to quiet us down, the first group of police were still there!

I’m confused. Thespians are girls who dig girls, right?

That’s right, darling. It’s an elaborate secret club that involves, among other things, lighting design. And you thought we just had kinky sex!

<smacks head against wall>

A thespian is an actor. Not to be confused with a lesbian. And then there are those of us who are lesbian thespians.

Awww, and my girlfriend is a thespian…does that mean shes been…
oh, wait, read the entire post before responding <whew>

i tried to be a thesbian once… i was in a play. but it turns out that i can’t act, and i only got in the play because i can sing and they needed a good chorus  It was Once Upon a Mattress and it was blast! I even got to be the center of attention for one nanosecond when the king goosed me (he really did! it surprised me every time) and i let out a resounding scream. the director told me it was beautiful and i got the Golden Goose Award. It was a very proud moment for me ::beams::
Thesbians are great, although sometimes they intimidate me when they come en masse. I prefer Art Kids myself (myself being one, of course ;))

I directed Once Upon a Matress. I’ve never had to deal with so much collective ego in my life… hideous, really. (I’d never directed before, and somehow it was entirely different from acting and crew in terms of what you would put up with.) Especially when the girls in the chorus who were suffering illusions about their acting and singing ability tried to tell me how to direct. <hiss>

I did enjoy the days that Sir Harry missed practice, though, because I was everyone’s stand in and I enjoyed those duets with Larkin. Sigh…

BTW, for the uninitiated, thesbian= lesbian thespian. Or it could just be bad spelling. Depends on the context.

I am not a thespian, although many SDMB people think I am. Ya see, my last name is Hespos and my first name is Tom, and I was not in an inventive mood on the day I first signed up for the boards.

I would be if I could be. But I have the same state of mind. I am definitely a thespian lover though.

There was actually some kid at competitions named Jonothan Lovitz. We had a good laugh about that.

I miss my thespian troupe! (475) I want to go back! whine

sigh.

aahh! I swear i never had any illusions about my acting ability – i knew i was terrible! My voice instructor convinced me that “the play’s the thing” so i did it. Then the play convinced me that it wasn’t MY thing.
It was so much fun, though. i would definitely do it again, even though i am painfully shy ::blushes::
