I love this version of Sheryl Crow's The Difficult Kind with Shelby Lynne

A shortened version from the 2001 Grammys (host John Stewart looks positively juvenile). Crow playing an acoustic, accompanied by Shelby Lynne. Sheryl Crow & Shelby Lynn - The Difficult Kind Grammies 2001 - YouTube

My god, how badass is that? Two amazing musicians locking into a harmony. Lynne’s voice is a second strong vocal - both Lynne (who’s gay) and Crow completely inhabit their personas - strong women trying to have a hard conversation with their partner. And Lynne is rocking her leather pants and halter something fierce. I just wish it was better video!

Fun song to play on acoustic too, although I could never pull off the leather pants…

Very strong performance, fine harmonies, and you have to admit it, they both look just hot. I like how the slide adds tasteful touches and wonder who plays it. Of course I know and like Sheryl Crow but have to admit that Shelby Lynne totally escaped my radar, only the name somehow rings a faint bell. Have to check her out.

I assume the slide player is Crow’s longtime guitarist, Peter Stroud. As an aside, he also co-founded 65 Amps, a boutique amp builder.

Yeah, they both look amazing. Shelby Lynne’s debut album, I am Shelby Lynne, is wonderful. But she has her share of tragedies in her life - I believe she killed her abusive father, in front of her younger sister. Her sister is Alison Moorer, a country singer who had been married to Steve Earle. Lynne came out as gay around the time her debut came out and it complicated things, and she had substance abuse and an undiagnosed bipolar disorder to contend with. So she never blew up the way she could have. But man what a voice.
