I just had to say that I love your sig. I know it is straight from the Young Ones and one of my quotes that I say every once in a while.
Neil, “Open up, it’s the pigs.”
Warlock, “Neil? It’s you.” Yells upstairs, “Hey guys, don’t flush the toilet it’s just Neil.”
Neil, “Oh wow, Warlock it’s not safe here, you are going to get raided”
Warlock, “That’s a pretty groovy pig uniform you got there, you almost had us convinced.”
Neil, “It’s not safe here, you gotto go.”
etc…
Not sure of all the quotes above but I still love it. For a while I had a Young Ones sig too. (I don’t remember which line and am too lazy to look it up.)
My favorite Young One episode is Nasty. Mostly because I like the Damned but also because the story was remarkably funny. “I have not sold out, here is my favorite Pot Noodle.” ehehhe…
Just thought I should let you know.

I live in Eugene, so we have a lot of Neils here, and a good number of Vivians. At the U of O, Everyday is like the Young Ones at the art department.
“Guys, guys! Guys! There soemthing VERY important I’ve got to tell you.”
I watched the young ones when it was on MTV 12 years ago, but it seemed like there were only 4 episodes they just kept repeating. Were there more episodes than that? Are they still on TV anywhere in the US?
Lol, your post made my day…I spend so much time trying to just not piss people off I never suspected I’d come up with something so inspiring! (Have to admit, I got the idea from Dewholic ;)) I have to point out, though…neil spells his name with a small “n.” (Some hippie thing, most likely.)
Another of my favorites is when they first move into the flat and there’s a big pile of mail under the mail drop and neil says: “Look at all these letters!” and Mike says: “Probably bills.” and neil goes (ominously): “WHO’S BILL???”
Also from the episode where neil becomes a cop, the ad in the paper for the Army says “You can have a gun!”
All-time fave episode: SICK. Where Rik threatens to write his MP and neil tells him he doesn’t have one because he’s an anarchist so he decides instead to write the lead singer of Echo & the Bunnymen: “Dear Mr. Echo…” Classic!
Zen, that’s when I watched them, too. Way back in the day when MTV showed videos. Was college really THAT long ago? Holy Cow. They are not on TV anymore, but they have a bunch of episodes on tape (my boyfriend has them all).
Rik was always my favorite. Have you guys ever seen Drop Dead Fred? He was a riot in that. I had to go out and buy it 'cause I was spending a fortune at the video store renting it all the time.

heheheh. There are 4 videos currently available in the US that I am aware of. I can’t think of which episode was the Santa episode though. If I was a Young One, I would like to be neil. I really liked the “get a bowl…really, really quickly” skit. Plus, I like to eat lentils. That is why I would like to be neil.
Join the pigs, we’ll take anyone.

Dear Fascist Bully Boys,
Give me more money, you bastards.
May the seed of your loins prove fruitful in the belly of your woman.

Squirrell, I had never heard of lentil soup til Neil mentioned it. Now I make it homemakde and love it! Still haven’t tried risotto yet tho. (it was snow in the episode)
I liked the one where Vivian pretended he was pregnant!
Have you guys heard neil’s “Heavy Concept Album”? It’s a riot. If anyone has it, I’d be very interested in a copy. I had a copy of a copy of a copy…etc… and it finally died!

“Listen, man, sleep gives you cancer, everyone knows that!”
“Don’t look at me–I’m irrelevant!”
" ‘Do Not Lean Out Of the Window.’ I wonder why?"
“This is a friend of mine called Mike…this is a friend of mine called Neil…and that’s a complete bastard I know called Rik.”
But the best gags, I think, are the visual ones: the hand drawing on Neil’s face, then wiping it off so Elephant Head can come on and sing (you just had to be there…). Or Neil’s very conservative parents at the front door, with a firefight going on behind them in the street, or the bit in Nasty where Mike says “This is actually very serious!”
The MTV episodes were censored! I later saw them on a PBS affiliate, and now I have them all on video. Incidentally, I’ve met a few people who’ve tried to convince me that there were more than twelve episodes. Absolute bull. They were either confusing it with the Comic Strip, or just full of it. Also, Adrian Edmonson is not dead; that was a common rumor in the early 90’s.

Remember, I’m pulling for you; we’re all in this together.

Their was also a rumor in the late '80s that Mike had died. I heard that isn’t true either.
democritus, Is “Hole in my Shoe” on that album? I remember MTV playing that video in 1986.
If anyone has satellite TV (DirectTV), there’s a BBC channel that shows The Young Ones on Friday nights at 8:00. I used to watch it with a friend, but haven’t been to visit in awhile, so I’m not sure if it’s still on.
Don’t have that one but I do have an import 12" of the Young Ones and Cliff Richard singing “Living Doll” if you’re interested…I’m afraid I don’t have a tape deck to hook up to the turntable, so unless you want it on MiniCD you’ll have to bring over your own tape deck. (Perhaps there’s an elusive MP3 out there?)
It includes the classic line:
neil: “Mike, what’s a 12-inch?”
Rik (outraged): “Same as a 7-inch, really, with 5 inches of nothing in the middle!”
Another favorite neil line is when he’s digging in the yard and lifts up the shovel and says: “You’re a spade!” then to the audiance: “I always call it that.” Heh!
