I am a wimp with needles and always have been. In February however I gave blood for the first time and only came reaaaaaly close to passing out. Today I made my second appointment and after doing some calculations have set the following goal:
I want to donate blood 50 times before my 50th birthday.
I turn 30 in May and you can donate blood every 56 days for about 6 times a year. They’re made the system for finding sites and tracking donations easy. I can even take another mission trip to a county where malaria is found and still have time.
You don’t have to wait for New Year’s for a resolution or Lent to quit smoking. I figure March 25th (or whatever day you’re reading this) is as good a day as any for making a new goal. Sure, donating blood isn’t up there with running the New York City Marathon, but I think we should also take time to set little goals that makes us happy too.
A goal can be anything:
Say “Hello” to one stranger a day
Visit all 50 states (Another of mine; damn you North Dakota!)
Read one book a month
Watch all the “Best Picture” Oscar winners (There will NOT be a test)
You can make a new goal right now; it only takes a second. It’s fun to have things to look forwards too and everyone likes the feeling of accomplishment. Pick a new goal and get started!
Hopefully I’ll be back here in less than 20 years to announce I’m all done!
