I made this postcard of myself...

KateSmack

I’m thinking of putting it on everyone in my office’s desktop backround for April Fools.

What are YOU doing?

Thinkin’ “hubba-hubba”?

If I looked like you, I’d be putting myself on everyone’s desktop too!

I am contemplating watching American Idol, brushing my teeth, and taking some aspirin for this work-induced headache.

Watching a new episode of Enterprise.

April fool’s!

Oh my god, is that a nipple I see in that picture?

No 4/1 plans yet… but I hope my bastardly mind will think of something.

I forget where I heard this, but it was definately not my own original idea, so go easy on the “Casey, you genius!” reponses.

  1. Minimize the office mark’s windows, leaving only his/her desktop showing.
  2. Hit “print screen/sys rq” button (over “Insert” button).
  3. Paste this to “Paint” accessory and save.
  4. Make this their new wallpaper.
  5. Sit back and count how often they reboot because none of their icons work.

I plan on pulling this more than once. Pity the chump who doesn’t lock their terminal.

I have always wanted to do this, it’s so devious and I work surrounded by, well, I’m surrounded, lets leave it at that. But, I’m doing something wrong, when I hit that print screen button NOTHING happens.

Help me. Help me not be stupid.

Nothing will obviously happen, but you’ve copied a picture of the desktop to the clipboard.

Now you want to do this:

  1. Start
  2. Programs
  3. Accessories
  4. Paint

When paint opens, click edit. “Paste” should be highlighted. Click it. (It may or may tell you that you need to resize. If so, say yes) The page you copied should paste to the blank paint page. Save it as something you can easily identify.

At their desktop, right click. Select “properties”, then “desktop”. Hit “browse” and find that picture. Select that as the desktop.

Good luck and try and keep a straight face.

Thanks, I practiced on my laptop, and boy was I fooled!

Is it Friday yet?

You guys missed the most crucial steps–

-right click on the desktop and click ‘hide icons’. Otherwise the actual icons will be visible over the desktop, and will still work
-Hide the taskbar

There was a thread on this in GQ a while back, with a much better version of this prank involving two computers–a PC and a Mac. I would be so tempted to try it if I could.

Prank
The thread in case anyone is interested.

I was really tempted to alphabetize a former co-worker’s keyboard. He was a two fingered typist, had to look at the keyboard to type, and MADE. SURE. HE. HIT. EVERY. KEY. FIRMLY. BECAUSE. IT. WORKS. BETTER. THAT. WAY…

I still regret not doing that.

If you work with people who work with Word documents a lot, you could change their default font colour to “white”.

Or pop out the ‘M’ and ‘N’ keys on victims keyboard and reverse, so at login time chaos ensues.

For the SysRq trick, if you want to copy the window you are in only (say I’ve got trillian running on top of firefox, like now) you can hit Alt+SysRq. Just thought I’d share.
