I may actually go insane with anger

So the window doesn’t get broken, obviously. :stuck_out_tongue:

Ducati, if you don’t call down, you will be in jail one of these days. Or dead.

It sucks that your dog was hit by a car (and I’m glad to hear it’s okay). But you can’t respond to life’s misfortunes by acting like a raving maniac.

The Fuck? Hitting stray dogs is a crime?

They are fucking dachshunds. You know what keeps dachshunds in the yard? A decent fucking fence. Quit spending your money on fucking dashcams a buy a fucking fence high enough to keep the little shits in the yard. And the obvious reason they never obey commands? You didn’t fucking train them. Fine, some dogs are shits to train, so buy a decent fucking fence.
Somehow, I have a feeling that if the person did stop after hitting your little hell bent for leather dog, this wouldn’t have turned out any differently.

That’s the thing. The person did stop until the frothing psycho came running at her car, screaming at her.

Frankly, given how deranged he sounded, I’d have probably run too.

Also, to the OP?

If these had been brand new dogs you just got and/or their first ever escape attempt, I’d have some sympathy. But it’s not. So you build a better fence, or chain them to a tree with a long leash or…gasp…train them better. This was 100% your fault.

Who has a dashcam on their car?

The person was wrong for running away.

But I still don’t have any sympathy for you.

Who has a dachshund under their car?

  1. The dog was unharmed but you went into a rage? I don’t get it. How could you not know that the dog was okay? If it was okay, then I should have thought you would have been relieved and, regardless of the propriety of someone fleeing the scene, what’s the point?

  2. Why would you chase after someone who had fled in this situation? What possible good could come of running him or her down?

  3. What good could have come from confronting all the people in this situation so aggressively?

  4. What’s with the little play-act with the policeman and the dash cam? Why not just say right out front that there were no threats and you have a recording to prove it?

You sound like a scary, raging, psycho. I would have fled too.

We have dogs and I can sympathize with the OP a lil bit. However, our dogs are trained to return immediately on command and are kept out of situations where they would be harmed.

Also, where I live there is a leash law. If one of our dogs got hit, we could be fined for allowing the dog to run at large, and if there was damage to the vehicle we could be held responsible.

A few years ago a neighbor’s horse got out when a storm damaged her fence. The car that hit the horse was banged up, as was the driver. Neighbor was in hot water over it.

This is slightly off-topic, but kayaker’s post made me think of something. What if the driver had swerved to miss the dog and had ended up slamming into a pedestrian or another vehicle? Would ducati be held responsible?

Wrong tense and too tense.

Who doesn’t have a dachscam?

On behalf of the rest of the human race, I’d like to thank you for living as far from the “aholes” as you possibly can. If there’s anything we can do to help relocate you to an even more isolated spot, please let us know. If you like exotic locales, I hear the bottom of the Marianas Trench is nice. Feel free to call day or night.

What deplorable actions? I’ve had near-misses with dogs in the stret before, and it can be very hard to avoid them. That’s part of why it’s illegal to let your dogs run free. There’s nothing deplorable about hitting a dachsund that darts out into the street; it’s just tragic. And there’s nothing deplorable or tragic about NOT hitting the dachsund, which is what this driver did. (I think–the last sentence of the OP is a bit unclear.)

And if somebody is running screaming at my car, I’m out of there, especially if I didn’t feel the thbump indicating that I’d hit their dog. Nothing deplorable about fleeing the crazy.

And as for the death threats, notice that the camera was running for the drive-by question, but not for the running-and-screaming-after-the-car part. Plenty of time to shout horrible things during that time.

Oh, I think D. We are very much in tea party territory here.

Maybe so, but Ducati is also the sort of guy who feels threatened when when people ask him where the cleaning products aisle is, and waves his gun at them. (He also thinks you need to carry a gun to protect yourself from Canadians offering free tickets to entertainment events.)

Exactly my thoughts. I don’t remember the last time someone was so deserving of my sympathy but managed to lose it so quickly.

You don’t think there may be an option or 2 in between “loud angry negro” and “African American”? You don’t think the OP could well have left race out of the description of the events? I do. I think when he got to the part where he was accused of threatening to blow someone’s nigger head off, most people would have grokked that the person was black.

Police your goddamned dogs, you ignorant scumbag. Take responsibility for your property, your actions, your attitude.

Mr. Ducati:
–If a driver intentionally hits a dog they will not slow down afterwards.
–If an enraged man --probably the pet owner-- begins screaming at the driver then the wisest thing for the driver to do is get the hell out of there.
–If the enraged man jumps in a car and pursues the other driver, instead of tending to his pet, he is probably insane. At least temporarily so.
–The reason for a driver to stop after hitting an animal is to see if he/she can help. If the apparent owner shows up there’s no real need for the driver to stick around. Commiseration is polite, but absolutely not warranted if the pet owner seems crazy.

Mr. Ducati: In the linked thread about the Calagary Stampede your analysis and comments about police intuition were likely way off base (if the “crime” was giving out free tickets as seems probable.)

All told, unless I get further evidence, I’m going to assume that your interpretations of reality are below average in accuracy, and that you are more likely to use your gun to kill innocent people than to justly defend yourself.

From a legal standpoint, you are liable for any damage your dog caused to the SUV. I hope the owner of the vehicle realizes this.
