It is hard to know for sure, I’ll give you that. The OP could be blinded by rage, certainly. But it’s a difficult argument to make to say that we know what happened better than the person who was actually there. And, its also a shitty thing to just drive off after.
Conjecture. As well as is the assumption that the driver hit the dog on purpose. If you’re accusing others as trying to paint the OP in the craziest light possible using his own words and previous posts in other threads, then by the same token, the OP would have certainly attempted to paint himself in the most positive light possible. You, too, seem oddly invested in portraying him this way as well.
So, of course the tape didn’t catch what happened when she hit the dog. Of course he feels it might have been intentional. Of course he got them on camera being threatening instead, although he’s talked repeatedly about his violent tendencies (or does saying something like he could’ve been “posting from jail” not count?). Of course he’s justified in his actions. Of course.
And for the record, I wouldn’t care at the time how my precious dog got hit. All I’d want to do is make sure he was going to be okay. Now after I find out what’s going on with him, I’d take care of other business. But right off the bat, he’s my first priority. Anything else is bizarre, in my opinion.
Lastly, as this is par for the course on the Dope, I’m amazed at what how some people are willing to defend the indefensible, like this or spouting racial epithets. Jesus.
What about you, though? If events transpired the way the OP suggests, do you think his rage is still misplaced?
I’m just curious whether the massive pile on against the OP is because (1) people simply don’t believe his story, or (2) he came off like a racist jerk by using the word “Negro”.
You win the internet, W.
That’s why I keep my cars unlocked. But I’m also not a dumbfuck who leaves a laptop in an unlocked car that I am not actually in.
ETA: I also don’t own cars the sane, or moderately insane, would want to steal.
Speaking as the guy that started the “pile on”, I accepted the OP’s account of what transpired as written, and I did not comment on his use of the term “Large Angry Negro”. My reaction was entirely based on my opinion that the OP’s conduct makes no sense under the circumstances, and appears to be at least bordering on irrational behavior. Normal conduct in that situation would involve checking on the possibly injured dog, and securing the uninjured dog as priority actions. Chasing down the driver, screaming at her, pulling into her driveway to scream at her in front of her husband/boyfriend/guy who-apparently-knows-her-in-some-way, calling the police, etc. would not be priority reactions, and probably would not occur to most reasonable people in that situation.
And all you people are allowed guns? Jesus. :smack:
Not ALL of us. Just … (thinking) … (thinking some more) … very nearly all of us.
So was the dog actually even hit by the car at all, or not? If it wasn’t hit by a tire, and they’re what, 8-12" tall, what else on a car is low enough to touch him?

I don’t get that at all. Slowed before hitting the dog makes it seem as if the person made a half-hearted attempt to slow down, then said screw it, I’m running the dog over. No screech of brakes? Just a slight decrease in speed? QUOTE]
Protip
R.I.F. Reading is fundamental.
She slowed down on a dead-end, residential street…so she was going say, 25-30 miles an hour. Tops. That doesn’t lead to “screeching of brakes”.
You keep ignoring the next part, so let me color-code it for you. She then came to a complete stop (with the dog still under the car, presumably, from the OP’s description). . Got that? She STOPPED. And didn’t start driving again until the frothing psycho came screaming at her from the back-yard, presumably yelling racial slurs.
Driving off under those circumstances is not only reasonable but prudent.
By the way. she slowed down and stopped. Just so’s there no misunderstandings.
The OP explicitly says the driver stopped and did not drive away until ducati came outside and screamed at her.
Ha ha. Awesome! I was just going for one minor point, but I’ll take it.
what????? SINCE WHEN?!?!? THAT’S CRAZY THAT WE CAN’T ACT CRAZY WHEN CRAZY THINGS CRAZY WHY I OUGHTA NARGLE FLEMPLE RAAAARRGGHHhhh- [meds applied]
Screamed at her to do what? Why did you stop your sentence there? Let me finish it for you: " …screaming at her to stop."
Now, let me ask you: If he was screaming at her to stop, does that imply the car was a) moving, or b) standing still?
I think the answer is fairly obvious.
If the dog was truly unscathed, it doesn’t sound like it was hit. Could it be that the driver had swerved around it, but from the OP’s vantage point, it just looked like the car had rolled over it? This would explain why the driver did not stop. She would have known right away that the dog had not gone under the tires.
It would be a damn shame if the OP got himself in a tizzy over what amounts to an optical illusion. And yes, he is too crazy to have all those guns.

(1) You seem quite certain of her speed. Why? Because everybody always follows the speed limit?
(2) Slamming on your brakes at 30 mph doesn’t lead to screeching of brakes? Of course it does.
Why am I ignoring this? I never denied that she came to a stop.
Wait, I thought this about reading what is there and not jumping to conclusions or twisting words. The OP says what he was screaming – “Stop!” You’ve lost any credibility you might have had in terms of examining this incident objectively.
If he was yelling stop, sounds like she was already going. And you’ve got to expect people aren’t going to be happy that you ran over their cherished dog. I ran over a cat once. Stopped and told them what happened; that I was terribly sorry but the cat ran out and there was nothing I could do. The woman burst into tears and the man certainly didn’t look too happy but I could tell that they thought better of me for stopping. It’s not going to be fun, but have some balls and do the right thing.
My mom hit someone’s pet once. I think it was a dog. I don’t remember. All I know is that she was freaked the fuck out about it and felt horrible. She couldn’t find the owner so she took it to the vet. I must’ve been about 11 or so but my mom cried off and on over the evening. Everytime I hit a bump in the road I think, OH FUCK I HIT AN ANIMAL OR SMALL CHILD! but luckily none yet. I seriously can’t believe the woman didn’t seem to care AND let her boyfriend threaten the already-angry OP AND file a false police report.
He yelled stop after she started leaving. After she came to a full stop. According to the OP.
Wait, so the dog wasn’t even hit now? You’re not even going to give the OP that? How about we just say that OP doesn’t even have any dogs? I will agree that if that is the case, his actions do indeed make him crazy.
She must be crazy for having an emotional reaction like that. I hope she doesn’t have any guns.
I remember the first time I experienced a pet being run over. I was about 10 and my mom was driving some house guests to the airport. Up ahead, we saw a little dog and a cat actually playing together. They ran off to one side of the road as we approached. For some reason, my mom didn’t slow down that much, and I almost knew something would happen. Sure enough, right as we drew abreast of them, the cat suddenly darted towards the car. I still remember the split second of everyone in the car holding their breath… and then the sound of the thump as one of the back tires hit the cat. I burst into tears. That was a long time ago, but I still remember it vividly.
