My parents have had two King Charles Spaniels for years. Tuppance is getting older, she is 15, and my parents are preparing for the day when they need a new doggy. Dad found breeder and they will be getting Merry.
Dad kept asking me if I was ready to get another dog to fill the void of my dearly departed Goliath. The way he is asking indicated that he wants to get me a puppy. After looking at the puppies, I have to say that Pepper is a pure darling.
Dad is just waiting to hear back from the breeder now…
PS. let me know if the links aren’t working. I’ll point to another place if that is the case.
CKCs are lovely little dogs. Having one get to 15 means your folks are doing something right, since they’re prone to some serious health issues.
I think it would be fun to get one from the same litter (are they litter-sisters) as your folks, especially if you live close enough for doggie play dates.
Okay, when my dad gets something in his head he makes it happen. He is now driving back from the breeder with Merry for them and Pepper for me.
The dogs are not from the same litter, they are a week difference in age I think. Also, my parents live in Dallas and I live in Toronto, so play dates will not be common. But Duncan is looking forward to having a little sister but he’ll be unhappy sharing my attention.
I just got my second dog, Grady, after losing my Dolly around the same time you lost Goliath. I got Morgan (a girl) a month after I lost Dolly and Grady 2 months later (2 weeks ago).
Morgan was only here 2 months alone and she is already jealous of brother. But she is slowly warming up to him.
Duncan will be happy to have another dog again I bet! How could anyone resist a King Charles anyway?
And uhm is Toronto a city in Texas? The logistics of all this is confusing me!
You get your breeder dogs and don’t listen to the naysayers. I don’t know anything about that breeder, but the fact that those puppies look very mature tells me the breeder is on the up and up–most put images up of the puppies when they are tiny little sausages and try to sell them asap to re-breed.
ANYWAY, I just got a used dog a few months ago from the humane society, and it was a bum deal. The HS lied to me about her age, breed, condition, health, etc and I’ve spent more money on her than I would have if I had bought a purebred Cav, which is what I would have wanted had I gotten a purebred. She’s a very sweet dog, but has many, many issues that the HS (as I said) straight up lied about. I wish I had gotten a pup from a responsible breeder instead.
Yay! I’ve always loved cavalier King Charles spaniels. Based on your experiences with your parents/your own, are they really as gentle/easygoing as they seem?
The key words here are “responsible breeder”. You know everything about a puppy from them. You get records of all Vet visits… You meet the parents, you know the temperament. The breeder loves his/her dogs and wants the best for them… A “puppy mill”,not so much…
