Deforest Kelly, “Bones” from the original Star Trek. In the (cliched) dog-eat-dog world that is Hollywood, he always struck me as being a kind, decent man, a loving husband to his wife of 51 or 52 years, and a pretty damned good actor.
Pretty much retired the last few years of his life due to health problems (stomach cancer and arthritis) except for the Trek movies, I once read an interview in which he stated the joys of his life were spending time with his wife and raising roses. Boring to some, but if it gave him joy…
I miss him.
Sir
Me, too. I didn’t know about the roses.
“I’m a Doctor, not a botanist!”
Oh, I remember when I saw the (first?) official announcement on the Net. Mr. Rilch was at work; I called him immediately on his cell phone, and fortunately he answered. I didn’t want him to hear it by way of a smart remark from a coworker.
I suppose this is a smart remark too, but I can’t believe Doohan outlived any of the others.
Rilchiam,
Not only is Doohan, at 80, the oldest, but I must assume, the most virile. He and his 40-something wife are gonna have a kid late this year or early next.
That’s why they call him “The Miracle Worker,” eh?
Sir
Has anybody posted a topic about the joys and pitfalls of such May-December children? I know there are pros and cons, but as the product of such myself (75/29), I’m glad I’m here, so my points would have to be moot.
Doohan’s amazing, I tell ya.
I miss Kelly, too. It was him and Spock which made the original series so enjoyable.
I wish I had a list of the characters and their ages.
