Only excitement in store for today is dropping off my dry cleaning and going to the Area 5C soccer tournament meeting. I’m signed up for two games Saturday and probably will do at least one more; they don’t want you to referee your own region’s teams if at all possible, but I have been designated an “Area” ref, since I have no kids involved, so apparently I’m trustworthy enough to do anybody’s games. We’ll see what the need is.
However, it is due to rain all night tonight and most of tomorrow, so that could put a damped on things, so to speak.
Afraid dinner will be rather mundane, but I’ll describe it this evening when ingested.
BLURF I am taking the day off. I have an appt to get my hair cut and colored and I need to get Lucky Louie’s nails trimmed. Right now I may go back to sleep for a bit.
Right in the living room, of course! That’s way better than the crap I have there now.
Just finished breakfast. I kept it simple with just two eggs and some toast. For the eggs I melted just a little butter in my good cast iron pan until it just started to bubble and brown slightly and then added the eggs. As they began to solidify across the bottoms I gave them the most gentle of flips and then just at the finish I used a lid from my dutch oven to give them that nice little finish but I made sure to remove it before they could develop that skin across the softer surfaces. The toast was a light golden brown since I was going to spread on apple butter rather than cow butter. For a buttered toast I would have gone maybe a few shades darker. I’m not much of a juice person so I had my usual water. We’re lucky in this city because our water is treated but rather lightly so there is no chemical or fluoride taste to it; just that clean wash that quenches your thirst and allows you to enjoy the full flavor of your food. It was quite yummy.
(Just getting in some practice )
I kept hearing all kinds of noises out back - I was afraid for a minute that Taz had escaped. They I figured out that when the wind blew, lots of acorns came loose and were pummeling the back deck.
Vacuuming is done. Guest bedroom is ready for guesting. I’m waiting for the timer on the laundry to beep so I can put in the second load. Once all the laundry is done, I’ll run to the grocery store, then come home and bake the pie.
Meanwhile, all the windows are open and ceiling fans are fanning. It’s warm and muggy - weird November!
I just enjoyed a slice of manchego and a tangerine, now washing it down with a glass of pomegranate-flavored cold tea (can’t call it iced, Mom didn’t have a single ice cube in her freezer and sticking a frozen chunk of meat or fish in the tea didn’t appeal).
I took Gordie out for his walk. Brunch today was a panchetta, egg and cheese, sandwich. Mozzarella, Asiago, and Parmesan cheese sandwiched between panchetta and a fried egg, sprinkled with fresh basil and oregano, and toasted on the griddle till both sides of bread were golden brown.
Towels are folded and put away. Shirts and socks are in the dryer, jeans in the washer. Once I transfer the jeans to the dryer and put away the shirts and socks, I’m on my way to Food Lion.
Busy busy!
Oh well, it’s OK. I was late because I had a fine lunch/dinner. Not having a lot of time, I started with a can of Hormel chili (no beans of course) and worked from there. I added three tablespoons of Haunted Hot Sauce’s Flesh Feast II even before heating. I like that sauce because it is has a more marinara-like base to it and brings a lot of flavors to the table rather than a simple heat-and-vinegar. Adding it before heating allows all the various spices to blend though-out and makes for a better result. As it started to come to heat, I added the jalapenos to give it just a little crunch and extra kick. Before eating, I added some grated cheddar cheese (Amish and smoked of course) and a couple corn chips. Even in this sudden heat wave, a hearty meal like that can be very much appreciated. To wash it down I treated myself to some Sierra Mist Cranberry Splash. The sweet and tart combination of the soda complimented all the various elements of the chili.
Other than that, just doing laundry and getting ready for work.
For N.O.L. I had a ham and cheese sammich. The ham is from the deli at the pubic sto’ and is hand sliced very thin. I chose pepper jack as the cheese because I like pepper jack. I applied a very thin layer of both mayo and regular mustard. I used whole wheat bread and opted not to toast the bread. Once the sammich was made I cut it in two on the diagonal cause that’s all fancy like. The sammich was accompanied by some salt 'n vinegar chips from Fred’s and a glass of diet Coke with plenty of ice. Now I must attend to irk stuff again. Le Sigh.
It’s nice and warm outside, but looks like it may rain.
I had a plain bagel with cream cheese for breakfast.
The bagel wasn’t toasted as much as I like, I like the edges to get a little golden brown and crunchy. I took it out of the toaster oven too soon, so it was warm enough but lacked the little bit of char flavor. It was a pre-sliced bagel from the Weis bakery department. I spread about one ounce of Philadelphia Brand cream cheese on each half. IMNSHO the other brands suck, as does whipped cream cheese and low-fat cream cheese.
All washed down with coca-cola classic, with the caffeine and fructose.
I overslept this morning, was a half hour late to log in, so breakfast was a bit rushed. I have lots to do so why I am not up doing it as opposed to sitting here wasting time is a question for which I have no good answer.
My breakfast today was a grilled chicken thigh on a hamburger bun with a light smear of mayo and salt and pepper. My lunch was a can of Chicken Corn Chowder soup from Progresso.
Our dinner tonight shall be steak like it is most Firday nights. It shall be a tenderloin fillet mignon. It will be accompanied by a baked potato with real butter and sour cream. A salad of some sort will also accompany the meal. There may or may not be a fine red wine. Dessert shall be a slice of Almond Joy flavored cheesecake.
Who are we torturing with our meals again? Doggio?
Breakfast was a nice mug of dark-roasted coffee, freshly ground before brewing, because we’re snobby like that with our coffee. I had a toasted blueberry scone. I sliced it, toasted it just enough so that it wouldn’t crumble when I spread butter on it, and then enjoyed it with melting buttery goodness. It had big, ripe blueberries in it. Yum-mee!
**sunny **- **flytrap **is the target of the food-a-rama since he complains too much.
I finished all my chores with 30 minutes to spare, even adding the waterage of house plants and porch plants. Laundry and groceries are all stowed in their respective stowage places. Lemon meringue pie is cooling, as much as it can cool in this stoopit 79° weather. I’ll stick it in the fridge before we leave. **FCD **is home and napping a bit before we head out. Daughter’s flight is boarding and she should be pushed back from the gate in the next 10 minutes or so. We’ll be leaving in about 15.
It’s been a busy but productive day. I was hoping to do leaves tomorrow, but we’re promised rain overnight and thru the morning, so that ain’t gonna happen. Oh well…
I solved a problem I was having with Firefox by switching to Chrome. I hate that you can’t turn off the link underline, but apart from that, it seems to work like every other browser in the world. Fortunately, it imported all my Firefox bookmarks, so yay!
I had a big bowl of Kellogg’s Cocoa Krispies for breakfast in Skim Milk. Drank the remaining now-chocolate milk of course.
Mid-day was a double Whopper with Cheese (no onion) and a large Coke from the neighborhood Burger King. Was second in line at the drive-through and brought it back to work (because I love it here so much…)
