I think I’m gonna’ go with www.DamnCool.com. Does anyone know what goes into getting this thing to work right? I know I need to register it, but the someone has told me I need to get someone to host it on their DNS and that costs money on top of registering it. Is this correct? I have no reason to doubt it, but while we’re at it . . .
Oooops. Looks like I wrote too soon. www.DamnCool.com is taken (even though there’s no web page.) However, the .net and .org are available. What’s cooler do you think, .net or .org?

There are free dns hosts out there, if you look. I don’t know what their names are, but just search on yahoo. They’ll tell you all you need to know.

I recommend just buying www.cool.com. You’ll have to save your pennies, though. The owner just turned down 38 million for it.
Or perhaps www.whatistheweb.com You could make it all up like matrix and lure thousands to your website before they realize that you are billing their internet company a load of cash.

The problem with networksolutions.com and other sites like it is that in addition to registering and hosting the domain name, they want to set you up with a web site and e-mail and all sorts of other crap I can do for myself.
Does anyone have any idea who will do just the minimum? With a one year contract?
What I do is just sign up at webjump.com.
They take the name you want, give you a 25 meg web space with it all for free, except for registration of the name, $35/year.
You get an ad banner at the top of your page.
I pay $70 [name registration] for a two year site there with cgi bin, etc. Its great for just letting a site sit for two years.
At this point, it looks like I only need to register the domain name. This guy at work who’s into this sort of thing is going to show me how to host my own DNS and/or host one from work. So, now all I need is to register www.damncool.net with IP # 209.100. . . . but that’s top secret until I get the page presentable.
