I have tons of mp3s with all sorts of different formats in their information fields and I’d like to standardize them. Can anyone suggest a good free application where I can edit fields for multiple files at once? Specifically I want to be able to open all songs on an album and change all of their info at once. I’ll go crazy if I have to do each song one by one in Winamp!!
Mp3tag and Mp3 Tag Tools are both free and easy to use. I used to use both of them, but most of my collection is now tagged so I rarely have to do batch jobs.
But if you’re already using Winamp to tag them, you don’t have to tag them one at a time, you can do them as a batch. Highlight the songs you want to tag in the playlist editor, right click - send to - auto tag. Of course, that’s assuming you just want to auto tag them.
If you want to replace words, etc., the other 2 programs are your better bets.
That looks like a great resource too, thanks! I’m leaning toward something that is recommended by someone here so I avoid the pitfalls of freeware (I’m always worried about mal ware). This page seems pretty trustworthy, though.
I have used “The Godfather” mp3 editor. Seems to work reasonably well for batch processing, though I would not be surprised to find a better tag editor existed. Overall grade: B+
In Windows, you can select all the files you want to change, then select properties -> Summary, and make sure you’re in the advanced view. A lot of the data can be edited for all the files at once. Change what you want, and click OK. It’s not a substitute for a real program, but if it does what you need, it’s pretty simple.
