I need a ruling on Insults Outside the Pit

I probably would not have read the whole thread just to make sure nobody was breaking any rules in there. I might scan it, but if there was a complaint about the thread’s topic, I’d look at the OP. We don’t have to read all of the posts in a thread every time we act.

Me too.

Nope. I don’t think any of the mods have a problem with a few extra emails, though. I don’t in any event. The button is there for you to push. Don’t be shy.

Yep, what Gfactor said. We’d rather get a dozen reports of the same problem than not get any.

And we all know what happens when one assumes…

Seems fair to me.

To elaborate a bit, here is what comes to the mods when you report a thread:

The report goes to all forum moderators. Admins don’t automatically see it unless they happen to be a moderator of that forum; neither do moderators of other forums. You can help us by filling in some detail in the message box. Some things are self explanatory. If I get a report that says Spam, please delete duplicate post (#16), or wrong forum, I’ve probably got all I need. OTOH, if I get a report that’s blank and is really about a perceived rule violation, I’ve got to look at the thread a lot more carefully to figure out what the sender’s concern was. So it helps to take a few seconds and put something into the message box.

As far as duplicates go, Gmail threads the reported post emails together for me. If I’ve been away from the computer for a while, I usually start with the last one first because it’s common for the others to be resolved. If I’m sitting at my computer, I just start working down the list of reported posts. It takes me less than a second to see if two posts are about the same thread, and a second and a half to see if they’re about the same issue. Not a big deal. I’d rather have to wade through 30 duplicates than have eveyone assume that somebody else sent the report.

And by the way, I seldom respond directly to the person who made the report. Rest assured, we get every one of them.
