I need advice for working at 7-Eleven

Oof! Glad to see you back. Sorry to hear you’d have to give up your creative writing. Sometimes mine is what’s keeping me together.

Not give up the creative writing, but limit myself to 2-3 hours a day instead of the ridiculous 8 or 9. It was obsessive.

Ah. Well, when the muse strikes, she strikes hard. I’ve put in hours like that but intermittently, like weeks apart.

Glad you are back. I missed your 7-11 stories.

My 7-Eleven stories will return but with far less detail. I was obsessively making notes throughout the day to share. Again, not healthy. This time it’ll be with the benefit of hindsight only.

it seems that you’re now mindfuly seeking balance. Which is commendable.

That’s for the best. Do your best to keep your work life and your home life separate and don’t spend all your off-time relitigating everything that happened that day. Just the fact that I occasionally dream about work inevitably annoys me when I wake up and then have to make the dream a reality.

(Funny story; since I live alone, I’m not used to people being able to hear me sleep, but a few years ago I took my mom on a trip to Seattle to see her favorite comedian and we split a hotel room for the night. She said that I kept sleeptalking about how I couldn’t get a barcode to scan.)

I am so happy you are back. Please take good care of yourself, are loved by many.

So glad to hear from you! I hope things go smoothly for you from now on. Hugs.

This. Welcome back to the world.

Very glad to see the OP is back among us. Please take care of yourself.

that sounds like a good plan. glad you are back!

I recently stopped at the nearby convenience store and saw how hard employees there were working to keep the customers happy, and immediately started thinking about this thread. Glad to have you back; I’ve enjoyed your posts and hope all goes well for you.

Welcome back, ekedolphin. I was thinking about you and hoping for the best. So glad you are here again.

Welcome back, and I hope you continue to feel better!

Welcome back!

After discussing the matter thoroughly with my family, friends, and doctors, I decided not to continue at 7-Eleven, and called my boss today to officially give her my resignation.

An excellent decision.

They (7-11 manager / owner) were going to suck the life out of you one way or the other. Not necessarily out of any malice, but just out of their own necessity to meet their needs in the face of their own inability to hire and retain good quality workers for what’s admittedly not a good quality job.

I hope your next stint wherever works out better. You certainly deserve better than you’d been given.

Glad to hear you are putting your mental health first.

$11 an hour (minimum wage in Virginia), the inability to sit down your entire shift, getting shit from customers sometimes as many as 10 times a day over checking ID, risk of getting held up at gunpoint, and having to pay for the food you cook yourself is a terrible fucking gig. That’s what you should take away from this thread.

But I felt wrapped in the embrace of your love with everyone’s interest, feeling like a true part of the Doper family for the first time ever.
