Our daughter is turning 15 tomorrow and instead of just giving her presents, I’m going to make her work for them. (Yes, I am evil). She’s going to get a succession of 15 envelopes with clues to the next one and a present inside ($10 gift cerificate, a chocolate bar, cash etc). I want to do 15 of them and I’ve gotten 7 so far, some are very specific to the family/house, but here’s a sampling:
#1)Happy Birthday Maddie
You’re now 15
Follow these clues in order
And all your presents will be seen
Your next clue shouldn’t be hard to find
Next time you eat, it’s under your behind
#2)Good job Maddie
You found the first clue
They’re going to get harder
But I’m sure you’ll know what to do
The next one is hidden under a place
Where something called “QWERTY” gets to my space.
#5)Figure out the words to find your next clue
A)The first four letters of the Egyptian city on the sea
B)H20
C)This item picks up waves from outer space, it’s a satellite _____
Answers:
#1)Is under her seat at the dining room table #2)Is under the keyboard at the computer #5)A=“Alex” who is the name of our cat (We went to Alexandria on our recent trip)
B=Water
C=Dish
So Alex’s water dish
I’m unfortunately running out of creativity. The other places I’ve used are the slide in the backyard, the garage door, and a milk bottle.
Anyone up for some creative clues? (She does love algebra, but I haven’t figured out how to apply that yet).
My brother once sent me on a clue chase for my birthday present. I recall at one point being sent to Mom and Dad’s closet and told to watch out for a falling object. There was a smallish white box with the words “falling object” written on it stuck somewhere in the closet.
People never think to look places they’ve already looked, so the best places to hide things are places she’s already found things in. But you have to save those for last, or she’ll cotton on too quickly. Get a whole bunch in a row that are in one part of the house, then send her off to a whole different part of the house so you can restock a few of the already used spots while she’s gone.
SO are you looking for clues to the places you just listed or are those clues done? Are you looking for places and want to do the clues? Are you looking for places and the clues for those places?
In plain sight (if y’all tend to have mail lying around anywhere)
Tucked behind a picture or mirror on the wall, so that moving the picture will cause it to fall out
Medicine cabinet
Inside the vacuum cleaner, where the bag goes
Seldom-used light fixture
Behind the red lens of the red-alert signals (best for phasers set to overload)
How about someplace she rarely sees, if she’s slacks on some of her chores? Say the inside of the dishwasher, behind the garbage can, under the ironing board?
You read my mind, clue #6 was “You can find the next clue where it’s a chore to get the two wet”. (One of her chores is to bathe her younger siblings.)
on a large sign just above the front door of the house.
have her do a bag switch with someone you know but she does not at the mall. She has to sit down on a bench and set a shopping bag down. Someone with the same bag sits down and asks a code question which she must give the correct response to, then the person leaves, taking her bag and leaving the bag they brought with the new clue and a gift.
Does she have siblings?
Perhaps you could do a CSI with them playing the victims with the clues on them?
My dad always hid easter egg clues in the washer and dryer. I remember having to help my brother climb in to get them
Do you have an answering machine? Or does she have a cell phone? You could either call your machine and leave a clue for her or call/text her cell with a message.
She has two younger siblings (ages 6 and 8), they couldn’t keep a secret if dessert depended on it.
I’m trying to keep this around the house so we can go out for dinner afterwards (or during if she gets stuck on a clue). I’m going home during lunch to hide the clues as some of the places would be very conspicuous if I’m hanging around.
