I need prostate cancer info

… and a little sympathy.

My Dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer a few months ago. We were under the impression that it was an early detection, as he goes in for yearly physicals and last year there was nothing. I wasn’t too worried at this stage, as most of what I’ve read about prostate cancer involves removing the prostate and everything is fine.

So he had his prostate out. A couple weeks ago he went in for follow-up tests, and his PSA levels, rather than being at zero as expected, were higher than they were pre-surgery. Apparantly the cancer had emerged from the prostate.

He just got back from the docter. He’s prescribing radation, which I guess has only a 25% chance of working. After that, chemotherapy.

My parents are both a wreck, and I’m not doing too well myself. Anyone got any first hand experience with this kind of cancer? Any good Web links? I’m doing some Google searches, and am overwhelmed with the info out there. What I’d really like to find is a good forum, but haven’t had any luck yet. Any info would help. Thanks.

I’d recommend http://www.prostatecancerfoundation.org/ as a reputable site for general info and lots of resources.

Their link, http://www.prostatecancerfoundation.org/aboutprostatecancer is helpful in a general way too.

Good luck!!!

Thanks Qadgop. I’ll take a look at those. This whole thing sure sucks.
