I gave my brother the first two Red Dwarf Books for Christmas last year. I want to get him the next two, but they were only printed in England. I can buy them from http://www.amazon.uk.co, but postage will be around $10.
Does anyone know an American source for these books? They turn up occasionally on ebay, but enough people bid on them to keep them from being any cheaper this way. I’ll get them from England if I have to, but if I can save a little money he’ll get more presents.
Whatever I do, I’ve got to get these soon, so I can read them before I give them to him!
It’s the bookstore in the U.K. that I always use to order science fiction, fantasy, and horror books and magazines from. (They also do Sherlock Holmes pastiches, another of my interests.) If it’s in print in the U.K. in those fields, they have it. They charge one pound and twenty-five pence for shipping for the first regular-sized paperback and seventy pence for each additional regular-sized paperback. (One pound amd twenty-five pence is about $1.80 and seventy pence is about a dollar.) There are comparable shipping costs for larger paperbacks and hardbacks. Unfortunately there’s a three pound minimum for shipping for foreign orders.
Actually, I do all my ordering from them by mail. Their address is 2-5 Suffolk Street, Birmingham B1 1LT, ENGLAND. They take Mastercard and Visa.
In my experience, the books should arrive about two to three weeks after you send them the order.
You can also try ordering UK books from Canadian booksellers, such as http://www.chapters.ca and http://www.indigo.ca. Generally, the shipping charges are lower than UK booksellers (depending on where in the USA you are), and the relatively weak Canadian dollar can help keep the costs low as well.
Woodle hoodle hoo! (That means hooray, in my brother’s lingo.)
I just orded the books from Canada. Not only was the postage less, but the books themselves cost less! Backwards cost 8 pounds ($11.50) put only 8 Canadian dollars ($5.20). Instead of spending $30, it only cost $14!
So thanks to everyone here, I get an extra gift this year. Errr, I mean my brother does, after I read it. (Hmmm, isn’t there a Lovejoy book he doesn’t have?)
And also, they’ve just started showing episodes from Season 8 where I live. So tonight I get to see a “new” episode.
Congrats. It also goes to show that just because amazon is the most e-failure, other places are often cheaper. I just bought a bunch o’ DVDs from http://www.lasersedge.com if they don’t go bust in the next few days, I’ll have saved about $20 on a $100 order
