I need some advice about college.

Sorry about that
I am going to take a remidial math class this summer at the CC, and then in the fall I will go to the SC, and take college algebra again. I am not going to take my ACT over. I will go ahead and enter on academic probation. I will have to follow a few different guidelines.(meetings with the advisor every three weeks and a limit on credit hours I can take) Oh well it can’t be that bad.

You all pretty much reiterated what everone else is telling me, and everyone can’t be wrong,so Majority wins

I work for a CC in Illinois, so I might be able to shed some light on this situation.

If you sit out more than 2 years, the CC in your district offers a “forgiveness” option. This option allows you to remove up to 15 credit hours from the GPA calculation. These grades will remain on your transcript, but are no longer a factor in your academic standing. If you simply repeat the same courses again, the new grade will be used in your GPA calculation; unless you earn a grade of “F”.

You mentioned that you would like to attend another CC before transferring to a SC. The problem with this is you live in a “CC District”. This means that if you went to another CC (i.e. not your District CC), you will be charged as an Out-of-District student. This Out-of-District tuition is normally 3 times the In-District Tuition.

If you are unsure of your direction, I always recommend a CC. The local CC employs faculty that are just as capable as those at the local SC. The CC is much more affordable, and allows you to find your personal direction.

I hope that some of this information is helpful.

Is This All There Is?

Luckily for me I am also moving to another city so I will be in the CC district-
wow your fist post, welcome to the SDMB:D

First of all, retake whatever math you want to take. It’s not stupid at all. Math is a slippery thing, and you wanna make sure you have a really good hold on it. I took Algebra I twice and Algebra II twice, and I can honestly say that it made all the difference. For my major, I had to take Calculus I, II and III, and I got As in all of them. I never would have if I hadn’t retaken those maths. Biology majors in my (state) school are required to take up to Calc II.

I would submit the ACT score. From what I’ve seen of college, SAT and ACT scores have minimal correlation to your performance in classes or your grades. They can only hurt you in admissions, so you might as well go with your high score.

Whether you go to the community college or the state school you sound like you will do very well. Don’t worry about slipping in the back door of academic probation, but don’t allow it to shut any doors in your face. You know you didn’t deserve those Fs, and you can chuckle about your academic probation when you graduate with honours. Does your state school have smaller, satellite campuses? Mine did, and it allowed me to pad my GPA like nobody’s business.

Good luck to you!

I vote you go to the State college and see if you can get on Secret Double Probation.

This can be taken so many ways.
