Yeah, I’m with Hodge… if you like Franz Ferdinand (like me), you’re LOVE David Byrne and the Talking Heads (also like me!). A little quirkier than the Franz, and Byrne’s solo works often get very soulful or orchestral, but shit… Psycho Killer. Need I say more? I mean, I CAN say more if you want me to say more…
The B-52’s is a great suggestion. Although theiy’re hugely different to Franz Ferdinand, they certainly qualify as crazy danceable rock.
I’d also try The Music. I can’t not dance to them. Lots of energy and a really chaotic sound. If you’re looking for a particular track to test them out, I’d go for “The Truth Is No Words”, “Float”, or the aptly named “The Dance”.
Me rite gud. I meant, those bands I listed are probably not what you’re looking for. They’re more spacerock/krautrock/industrial than most of the others recommendations. Speaking of which, I forgot to add:
Pressurehed
Secret Machines
Soul Jazz has some great comps for this stuff- “New York Noise” is great, and I think they also released “mutant disco,” which is a collection of that great post-disco, pre-techno stuff. One of the tracks features nona hendryx, who sang backups in the Talking Heads.
Once again, that thread on the main page of Cafe Society about Talking Heads–that one’s mine. I love love love love love Talking Heads. Mmmmm, Psycho Killer. I especially love Blind.
All good recommendations - I would emphasize bands like the Ramones, add Green Day (Dookie is great for dancing) and I am sure there are plenty of others.
But my biggest recommendation would be to go to:
and spend some time surfing around there - you can plug in a band name and see what they feed back as related bands; and if you click on a band, you get other related bands and some music samples. Let your fingers do the walking.
Some newer bands…
The Detroit Cobras - Left, Love and Leaving
The Dirtbombs - Ultraglide in Black
The Organ - Grab That Gun
The Sadies - Tremendous Efforts
The Gore Gore Girls - Up All Night
Somewhat older bands…
The Rezillos - Can’t Stand The Rezillos
The Jam - The Very Best of The Jam or In The City
The Cramps - Bad Music For Bad People
The Gruesomes - Gruesomology
The Gories - I Know You Be Houserockin’
The Barracudas - Drop Out With The Barracudas
Old old bands…
Wanda Jackson - Queen of Rockabilly
The Rolling Stones - England’s Newest Hitmakers
Chuck Berry - The Great 28
OK, quick update. I’ve tested out a lot of these bands, and really only one stuck out: Radio 4. This is some damn good funky music. Apples in Stereo is good music, but I couldn’t dance to it at all. I think I’ll include a list of my current favorite bands:
!!!

I think you can get a good feel of what music I really dig from this list.
Ah, so a band like Dntel only more upbeat? Maybe you would be interested in either the genre of Math Rock or Drum and Bass? DB is more electronic, which is only sometimes good (I really do not like techno much). Math rock, however, can sometimes bleed over into electronic. Try bands like Inlantic or Cranium?
The only band I can honestly think of, as of right now, is Menomena. “I am the fun blame monster” is defintely a funky rock CD but I am not to certain if you would dance to it or not. http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/menomena
Those are the bands I’ve seen live on your list!
Since you like Save Ferris, are you into ska at all? You can’t get much more fun or more danceable than ska music! You ought to try:
The Pietasters
The Toasters
The Specials
Less Than Jake
Reel Big Fish
Mighty Mighty Bosstones
Skavoovie and the Epitones
Hepcat
New York Ska-Jazz Ensemble
MU330
Mustard Plug
The Slackers
Dance Hall Crashers
Some of these bands are jazzy, laid-back, old-school ska, and some are much faster and more frenetic, with punk influences. But they’re all GREAT for dancing. I used to play in a ska-punk band called Baker Act, and I’ve got a couple mp3s available for downloading on my website: http://www.geocities.com/bigbadvoodoolou/bakeract.html . Click on the link at the end to go to my Music page, where some links will lead you to other bands and record labels… and from there, more mp3s for you to check out!
