Part 1
Okay, so many of you know that my husband died at the end of last year (and if that’s now the millionth time I’ve typed that on these boards, I sincerely apologize), and in the end, he spent almost two weeks in hospice.
He loved it there and the place was amazing. Beautifully done with calming gardens, the staff were like angels sent to help us through the most difficult time we’d ever faced. I was so blessed that he got to be there and our last moments together were peaceful and solely focused on love, rather than scary and more stressful and alone. It honestly was a godsend.
Part 2
When we lost our house near Frisco due to dealing with his illness, we moved back to east Texas so that it was closer to family that could help me take care of him and more affordable. However, my mental health was at an all-time breaking point due to the strain. As such, I finally found something I could do out of the house to help us both but wouldn’t keep me from him long.
That was volunteering at a resale whose proceeds going to the local food bank. And while there, is get to collect the one thing I love that’s super cheap, like a .10¢ a piece… pillow cases. I’ve ended up with so many I could probably outfit every pillow on every bed in a nearby metropolitan area.
Part 3
I’m beginning to downsize further for financial reasons and because it makes me more stable while dealing with my mental illness and newly joint the workforce again. Because of that, and Jaceson’s experience at hospice (as well as just generally liking to do stuff for others), I’m starting a pillow case charity. I know that may sound crazy (ha!), but bear with me.
While there, people that are dying love having personal touches to help them through the process. Unfortunately, I don’t have the talent or time to be some of the fancier things I’ve seen, like making quilts or crocheting afghans. So, this is where the next step comes in…
Part 4
I’d like to take the best of my over abundance of pillow cases and have them embroidered and patients can have them if they like. I use a specific company to make me promotional items for my fledgling business, and they’ve agreed to give me a ridiculously low price to help me. In exchange, I’ll have tags that say we partner up. I’m so psyched I can’t stand it.
That’s where you come in. I’ve already got a few standbys, but I’d like some more. Thus far:
You are loved
You are special
May peace be yours
You get the idea, but the more the better. Also, as a side note, I’m gonna hafta call my charity something, so any ideas on that too would be hugely appreciated. And then when I get my first batch of ten done, I’ll make a Facebook page for it and others can check it out if they’d like. I think it’s going to be awesome.
Anyway, thanks for reading this far and I’m grateful for any feedback. I have no doubt much will be forthcoming, because Dopers are just good that way. <3
