Okay, Contra. But can you just explain, for those of us who weren’t privy to the whole history of the thing, why her one answer doesn’t qualify as an answer? I mean, would you agree with me that there is a difference between being unsatisfied with a response and not receiving a response?
Her response was a non response. It was an answer only in the sense that it was typed in response to a question. Otherwise, it has no relationship the the topic at hand. Among her various claims are that her example was hypothetical, conditional, and an analogy. All in response to the same question. Does this make sense to you?
In a thread about whether tardiness is a character flaw, and whether people should be responsible for their own actions, she claimed that a certain number of people suffer from ADD, and are therefore unaware of the passing of time; and that even if only thirty people in the entire USA suffered thusly, we should treat everyone who is chronically late as if they had ADD. I simply asked her if she were aware of any other situations to which she would apply the same criteria. A simple yes or no would be a sufficient answer, although if it were ‘yes’ I am sure some followups would have been forthcoming.
She then opened a Pit thread to continue her crusade, and still refused to answer the question, finally convincing fluiddruid, against what I have come to understand is Pit policy, to close a Pit thread simply because it was not working out well for the OP.
As long as she continues to take shots at me, I will expose her for the liar that she is. I have not sought her out. I do not respond to her posts at all, unless they are directed at me, or, as noted, are an insult to me.
I thought it was dropped–but then she made some comment about Contrapuntal and then it came back up. I personally am not seeking an answer from her and I can’t speak for Contrapuntal, but if one wishes things to be dropped, then it seems incumbent to not bring them up by implying that the person (read-Contrapuntal) is not good at his arguments (see her post 83 , 88 and 99 ). QED asked why why she had an issue with Contrapuntal and I posted the thread where I saw it start (hell it could be somewhere else–that is where I happened to see it start). So after that I think her refusal to answer the question is fair game. She could have ignored it again if she wanted to.
I realize she thinks she answered the question–but in my opinion she did not answer the question asked of her–she answered a different question. Now if it was only one poster saying that, I likely would not put too much stock in it. But when several posters tell me that I wasn’t clear–that is food for thought and you should maybe evaluate your position.
I have seen many posters readjust their position–Bricker being one that comes to mind right away. If no one understands your position–perhaps the issue might be within oneself.
You are a good example of this–normally I will admit I don’t care for your posts–there seems to be a hostility in them that seems out of place in the thread. However it was just your recent thread where you were discussing with MrDibble your comment in his thread that I finally put it together. I do believe you did not intend to be hostile in his thread–but it came off that way at least to me. And you discussed your recent realization that perhaps your writing style is getting in the way. I am certainly looking at your posts in a much different light now and I am hopeful I will be pleasantly surprised.
I try and keep an open mind about posters–but there are patterns. She has shown a pattern on not listening. So be it. If I find those patterns I usually don’t read those posters. But if she is going to call Contrapuntal a liar when he hasn’t shown himself to be–well then she is going to get called on it.
She could drop it here if she wants. Hell I rarely post as you can see by my post count. I often think I should respond to something–but then life gets in the way and it seems too late. I rarely respond more than once or twice in a thread–this is probably my record here! She can respond or drop it and NOT bring it up again and it will go away. But I know if someone was saying I was a liar I would call them on it and so I don’t blame Contrapuntal at all on this.

He isn’t due to make the bi-annual post explaining this yet, so let me summarize it: Back in the Clinton era, a married couple signed up for AOL; their names were Tom and Deb B. Deb has found better ways to occupy her time than making posts on a message board, but Tom continues to do so, using the same name he has used since before this board was founded on AOL. Every two years, he explains that to someone who wonders about it. There are a few others around in the same boat: Gusnspot comes to mind (Spot, being a motorcycle, has never attempted to post). I’m not sure about Kimstu. And we won’t mention Heffalump and Roo.
As for the generic issue provoking this thread, as a non-Catholic somewhat familiar with Catholic doctrine in theology and morals and some popular teachings that mistakenly purport to represent it, I have seen Tom portray, accurately as far as I can tell, what Catholic teaching actually is. If correcting someone else, he’s generally very careful and courteous to note that he does not doubt that they were taught otherwise – I specifically remember his post in that regard to Valteron regarding masturbation. I have never myself noticed him being supercilious. In fact, it’s been my experience that those who call him supercilious have generally made an arrogant statement of “fact” which is actually their own opinion, and Tom has the temerity to disagree with them. That may not always be the case, but it’s turned into a pattern.
