I now have a 2-cat household

I understand that according to the standing rules and bylaws of the SDMB, I am required to post cat pictures. I am somewhat delayed in completing this task, but am still within 1 month of the adoption of aforementioned cat.

Three years ago this coming January, I adopted Velcro, who’s one of the sweetest cats I’ve ever met (and everyone who meets him agrees - he never met a stranger). https://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=781322

He’s very attached, but I was thinking about him perhaps needing another cat in the house, as he had a tendency to clingy that was past just " lap cat". So I’d been looking and looking - I knew I wanted a younger cat than Velcro, but not a tiny kitten - Velcro is mellow. I finally found somecat through a local rescue.

Meet Rocket J. Squirrel, Rocket (and sometimes Rocky) for short: https://www.instagram.com/p/BqU3QpFADvB/ https://www.instagram.com/p/BqFvTGihAcN/ https://www.instagram.com/p/Bqzlzr0B6kW/

He’s about 8 months old now, was found in a parking lot when he was about 4-6 weeks old. He was vetted, neutered and vaccinated through the rescue.

There were a couple of days of hissing on sight between the two (my space isn’t huge, so keeping them separated was difficult). We moved onto tolerating and there’s been some grooming of Rocket by Velcro in the last week, with an occasional hiss when Rocket tries to be too rambunctious for Velcro.

Sometimes Velcro still tries to tell me I’ve ruined his life by adding in this interloper, but mostly Somecat (Velcro) and SomeOtherCat (Rocket) are doing ok.

Good on you and based on your third pic:https://www.instagram.com/p/Bqzlzr0B6kW/ I think both the furballs are pretty okay with it too.

Fuzzbutts need 4-legged friends so they can talk about how crazy 2-legged people are.

Cuties, they are.

Somehow before I saw Velcro I knew he was going to be yellow/orange. I have one of those. It does help to have another cat to keep the velcro orange guys from never leaving your lap. (I have his sister to keep my guy in line.) Your new Rocket is a real cutie and I’m glad they are pals.

What great pictures! I’m so glad it’s working out.

Adorbs!!

Very nice! Congratulations on your new kitteh. I hope you have many wonderful times together.

Cute Kitties!

One of my golf buddies got divorced and remarried to a woman that used to join us for most of his golf rounds.

I nicknamed her “Velcro” much to her chagrin.

THANK YOU! Cats are wonderful, and they can greatly benefit by owning humans. Bless your heart.

Beginning of 2018 we had two big dogs and 3 cats. One of my boys brought home a kitten because he wanted a cat and apparently none of the other fuzzies in the house were quite right for him. He was worried about the dogs, so I took his kitten, said “Look”, and plonked the 6 week old fluffball on the floor in front of the pit bull. Nuzzling ensued to the amazement of all (cats are NOT the vicious razor balls they’re made out to be). By and by, the alpha cat (Chicken–the 17 pound mini panther) stalked into the room, took one look at the kitten and … laid his ears back and fussed at her like she was an angel sent from heaven to smite all evil in the world. The boys (they’re all over 18, remember) panicked and thought for sure the kitten was done for. “Silly boys”, says I, “That’s just how cats say Good Morning! They’ll be pals by nightfall.” I was wrong, took a whole 'nother 24 hours for that to happen.

My point? Oh yeah. Cats are Italian: When they’re faced with something they’re not expecting, they yell at it to see if they can make it go away. If it doesn’t go away, they feed it and love it forever. And occasionally still yell at it to see if they can make it go away.

Squee!

Nothing from Two Many Cats?

Both beautiful cats!
