New Kitters

Our crochety, cantankerous and absolutely calico cat (Ella the Hellcat) had to be put down this Spring due to health issues and we have been missing her presence. SWMBO found a pair of brothers on the local Humane Society website a little while later but we were too sad to really consider another cat.
Fast forward to yesterday and I met them while my co-worker was getting his dog a licence. We are filling out the paperwork and should have them in the house by the weekend barring any hindrances.

Pics from Humane Society: Redirecting...

More to follow once they are home…

Awww! What handsome boys! They’re lucky to find a home together. They’ll be so fun and entertaining for you, as well. Congratulations!

Oh pretty cats!

Two cats who like each other are much better than one cat alone. And cat games to watch!

I anxiously await the additional pix!

I like the orange one just fine but the other guy is super-awesome looking! Scritch him an extra time for me and then scritch the orange guy again so he doesn’t feel slighted, k?

Good on you for accepting the call to duty from your new feline overlords!

I’m so glad you guys found each other. :two_hearts:

Swoooon…

What gorgeous kitties! I do love the orange boys–I’ve had several and they’ve all been extra special. I love the way the tabby with the white vest is sitting-- he looks like a business executive.

Getting two cats who already like each other is very smart.

Okay…taps foot… what about names? Do you have names lined up? Do you want name suggestions? Do we need a naming contest??

KITTEHS! Thank you for adopting a bonded pair.

The orange one looks like a conversationalist! I hope you keep up your end of the chatter!

Thank you for the kind replies! We were approved today and picked up the various cat accoutrements we will need. The names they have at present are Kaiju (dark tabby) which we have no intention of changing as it is an awesome cat name! The orange tabby is Jambalaya, which isn’t the name I might have picked and he’ll probably end up being Jam for short. We’re open to suggestions, though.
They’ll be home tomorrow afternoon.

Jambalaya is a great name!

Together they are Jambakaiju!

Keep those kittehs safe, Cats have been shown in several countries to test positive to C-19 and carry it without symptoms.
Google has info…and I have a cat.

We will. Thankfully, the number of cases here has been relatively low and most people are respecting the social distancing and mask requirements. I’m hoping it’ll stay that way.

Regarding changing their names, you may want to do some testing with them and make changes slowly. Changing environments and people is so stressful. If they know their names, they might be comforting as something familiar to them. My avatar kitty came with his, “Harley”. I liked it, anyway, but in the beginning when I called him he really whipped his head around with a look of surprise on his face. No other names got that kind of reaction.

I did extensive research on coronaviruses several years ago, specific to the cat.

I had adopted two rescues from the Humane Society, and it seemed they were ALWAYS sick, with gut problems.

They were treated for giardia, and tested for allergies, of all things they ended up allergic to wheat, pork, white potatoes, and rice. I bought them gluten-free food, and finally ended up giving each of them daily doses of probiotic just for cats.

One of the cats had the problems clear up. The other cat got sicker and sicker, a gradual decline. He had constant loose stools, and occasionally bled into the stool.

It got to the point I could feel each bony projection on his spine, but he had a fat belly.

The vet we use is a remarkable animal doctor. He knew the whole history, and he withdrew a syringe-full of fluid from the cat’s abdomen.

My cat had Feline Infectious Peritonitis. And it’s fatal.

It turns out most cats pick up a coronavirus at some time in their lives. It’s very contagious. And for most of those cats who get it, it causes a benign, short-lived “stomach virus,” and it resolves without treatment.

For a small minority of the infected cats, the coronavirus mutates and causes the FIP.

I learned a lot about coronaviruses so I could understand what happened to my cat. The first thing I learned is that the coronavirus mutates rapidly.

And while coronaviruses infect nearly everything, they usually are species-specific. Typically, coronavirus in cats infect the gut.

My cat’s fatal infection with coronavirus was no threat to me or my family.

It just broke my heart.

My cat was an Ocicat, he had the most amazing green eyes, and his name was Peri, short for Peridot.

With the coronavirus pandemic, there have been only a couple of instances of household pets testing positive for infection, and their infection was respiratory, not gastrointestinal.

The cross-species infection that supposedly created this human pandemic COVID virus was apparently transmitted through blood contact.

Congratulations on the new kitteh! I hope everyone enjoys a long, loving life together!

And I politely suggest if a kitteh gets sick, handle him/her using gloves.

Which is . . . about now?

Which, if so, means you’ve got other things on your mind at the moment besides posting. But congratulations to all of you! and I hope explorations are proceeding well.

They have been steadily wandering and showing themselves a bit more and more. They also found every dust bunny under the bed I thought I vacuumed up this morning… Kaiju is a little more skittish and keeps calling for his more adventurous (and vocal) brother. You nailed it, VOW!
They already tried out the litter box and had a few crunchies so I’m happy they’re calm enough to eat. I’ll post up more pics as I get’em! Very happy today! The camera on my phone is crap but I’ll gtet better shots soon.

I’m so happy for you! :heart_eyes_cat:

Where are we? What is going on? – ooh, a window. – hey, a scratching post!

(I’m not sure from the picture whether humans meant that to be a scratching post. But I bet it’s one now.)

Prrrrrrrr – in stereo.
