I photographed my first wedding today!

Today, all by myself, I photographed a whole wedding!
You see, my weekend job is wedding photography, and this wedding was the last “test”… If the film comes out well enough, then I am officially on my own!

I think I did a pretty good job… but I’m still pretty nervous about it!

My first thought after reading the title was; “How many are you planning on having?”

I’m sure you won’t need it, but GOOD LUCK!

Bravo, liirogue! Congrats on spreading your wings. I plan on becoming a pro photographer myself, but I have foresworn wedding photography because I’ve met too many psychotic brides. I admire your bravery.

So again, mucho bravo! Hope your pics turn out like a dream.

Make friends with florists. We’re a great source of referrals. We also come in handy for props and silk photo bouquets that don’t look cheesy. (Loaners, ask about loaners. We have three that we’ll lend to anybod that asks nicely and will bring them back.)

Also, GET SOME MONEY UP FRONT! Your basic fee, at least. Cheap people like to stiff the wedding contractors because they won’t need them again.

Good luck. Brides are nervous, Mothers of Brides can be psychotic. And watch out for Bridezilla.

Oh, and learn to tolerate UGLY dresses.

thatDDperson, thanks for all the advice! Luckily, I work for a studio, so they are the ones that have to schedule the wedding, they provide me with film and camera, I shoot the wedding, return said film and camera, and I’m done with the wedding  Of course, the people are the ones to pay me, but if they don’t (or their check bounces, etc.) the studio will reimburse me.

I’ve done a couple weddings. It’s a mix of fun and dread, but mostly fun.

The best photo I’ve ever taken was at a friend’s wedding. She had spent hours getting ready, just had her nails and hair done and only 5 minutes to go when she turns to us and says she needed a pee.

Oh dear…

We all hussled her into the church toilet. 4 people grabbed her dress and train and hoisted. This was a massive dress mind, so not as easy as we hoped.

I was laughing as the stall was so small, trying to fit 5 women into it was like cramming people in the phone booth trick. Luckily the camera was still in my hand and I was snapping away.

The train fell from one person’s hand, someone else grabbed it and all I could see was bum through the lace and mesh.

When the photos were developed everyone was fighting over that photo and the negative from it…

I’m such a turd!!

Hey, cool. I did the same thing yesterday. My brother-in-law commissioned me to do his wedding (which would be the second I’ve photographed). I was worried about messing things up and pissing off his fiancée, but everything went smoothly. Well, as far as pictures go; as for the wedding itself, that’s for a pit thread another day.
