In my suggested phrasing, “on average” is carrying a lot of weight, and absolutely I’d want to see the sort of disaggregation you’re talking about. But at least that kind of phrasing would be data-focused instead of the sort of racial chauvinism that DA advocates.
FWIW, I do not usually think of Indians, Thais, or Filipinos when someone says “asians” in casual conversation.

It is true for the overwhelming majority of asian americans and for confucian cultures generally. There are a lot of bad things about confucian culture, even the focus on academics is not entirely a good thing. The teen suicide rate in these cultures is not because they are all angsty, these teens are very driven and under very high pressure. They are led to believe that their performance in school as a youth will have lasting and significant effects throughout their lives. And they see the evidence of this all around them. There is a downside to all this focus on education, it doesn’t come without great cost.
So unless something is true in every case I cannot say it is generally true for the group? Cmon. Pfft.
Nah. There was a poster that would get offended on behalf of the minority members of his extended family. He would use the black members of his extended family like a friends and family race card in a way tht a lack person never would. I don’t recall who it was. Well, indian americans are probably among the best educated and certainly have the highest income among asian americans. Filipinos have probably the second highest income. But as people frequently point out, these groups represent a fair bit of cherrypicking. They probably have strong family traditions of hard work and academic success but it is not nearly as widespread in india and the phillipines as it is among indians and filipinos in the usa. I don’t know much about the thais, I know they are doing better than average but they are not a huge population and not really used as a benchmark relative to indians and filipinos.
