Just to be clear: I’m talking about the people in this thread who don’t see bigotry in other whites when it is obviously staring them in the face (and maybe in their mirrors, too). They’ve defined bigotry so narrowly that no one is a bigot. It was a self serving lie that did real harm. Like I said, too late now.

I think so too. It always seems it’s the whites who get the benefit of the doubt. Unless their actively burning a cross while wearing a hood, “who can say what motivates them?”
To be clear, I never said how many people I thought were genuinely ignorant of Trump’s bigotry (because I don’t know). And even in those cases, it’s still quite possible that many such people are still bigots; their support of Trump just isn’t evidence of it.
I do think, though, that the majority of Trump’s supporters do know of his bigotry, and either don’t care or agree, and that either of those is itself a form of bigotry. And there’s also systemic racism involved, in that it’s white privilege that enables such people to be ignorant: It would be much harder for a black person, or an LGBTQ person, or a Hispanic person, even a willfully ignorant one, to be unaware of Trump’s bigotry.

I find it sad that this thread doesn’t have anything to do with either Pit subject anymore (especially the one still on this site).
Well it sucks, and it’s yet another reason the deck is stacked so hard against Democrats.
A lot of it comes back to Lee Atwater’s famous quote
Now, you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.…
So you get someone who is a bigot, who knows they’re a bigot, who campaigns on cutting taxes. And a bunch of people, also bigots, know exactly what cutting taxes is code for, “Cutting benefits for black people to hurt them,” who lap it up. And then there’s the morons, who just think, “I like cutting taxes, what’s so bad about that?” and lack the intellectual curiosity to understand the repercussions of their position.
So the people who know, on both sides, know that cutting taxes is motivated by bigotry, but if you say, “This tax policy is racist” then you’re the one who sounds insane, even though it’s true.

Over in the GD thread, “Voicing limited and qualified agreement with a bigoted stereotype,” she just appears to be bursting at the seams, veritably begging for an opportunity to say some sort of frankly bigoted, repellant thing or another.
Her arguments are weak and getting weaker with every post, all over the map, and have been roundly thrashed by a good number of bright and thoughtful Dopers.
But – to her estimable credit – she seems impervious to learning from any of it.
It feels like she was counting on Lumpy (the OP of the thread) to set a pick for her so that she could drive to the backboard while shouting bigoted epithets at the top of her lungs.
Her performance is so unsettling in the GD thread that – whatever constraint bars her from acting on these particular worst impulses – I highly endorse that constraint.
A profoundly tedious pseudointellectual bigot with a scorching victim complex. Lovely.
Now that she’s banned from the Trans hobby horse I’m wondering how far she’s going to go on the Islamophobia one.

I think you’re remembering the times she has been moderated for her posts about trans issues, but just to be safe I did a search in ATMB, and this is the only topic ban I can find for this poster.
Weird. I could have sworn I’d seen it in GD or the Politics forum.
Yeah, no mention of her account in the topic ban stickies for either category.
A couple of other posters were given a topic ban on trans issues in GD, not DemonTree.
Likewise, I was certain there already was one.
Honestly I think on some level she’s got to be enjoying this, because it will feel like validation of her persecution complex, which props up her sense of righteousness on this topic. Expect a lot more passive-aggressive posting about the intolerant left censoring discussion of “certain issues”, how this board is an affront to free speech, etc.
Anyway, I had a lot more to say about her flame-out post, but since it’s unsporting to drag someone who’s restrained by a topic ban and probably on thin ice in general, I’ll leave it at that.
I wasn’t, because as frequently as she mentions the topic I’ve never seen anyone invoke the topic ban. If she’d had one before there would have been no missing it.
