I wonder if he pronounces his screen name as “DerrDeth.”
His permaflounce is taking much longer than we’d hoped.
Stranger is doing a masterful job of not calling DD a maroon in the thread on Ethics of Traveling for a Vaccine. DD is digging his heels in. Unknown how long Stranger will be able to hold off. Popcorn-worthy.
There a current thread in GQ about IDing a camera trap photo from Washington state, which I identified as an ocelot in the second post. Now, despite the lack of any competence or expertise to identify animals, he’s in there trying to identify it as some kind of domestic cat through Google searches.
I saw that, and immediately thought ocelot or clouded leopard, but not having only seeing both those animals on Nature, I kept my yap shut.
While I don’t like to invoke the Argument from Authority, this just shows his arrogance. He does this a lot. Even when someone is clearly an expert, and he knows noting about the subject, he’ll Google something up and contradict them.
It would be one thing to say “what about this type of intentionally ocelot-like domestic breed/hybrid?” But once that was addressed, as it was, with specific characteristics that discredit that possibility pointed out, doubling down as he did is just stupid.
“Wrong, stupid, and doubling down” should be his signature line.
I think you missed that he is an expert. He formerly owned some other kind of cat.
I’ll bet his phone has a camera on it too, which makes him an expert on trail cams.
I actually had a project once to identify animals in camera trap photos. I’ve identified ocelots in dozens of such photos.
For what it’s worth, when I googled ocelots, it really looked like an ocelot. It looked too sturdy (?) for a domestic cat.
So he just emailed me to say he didn’t try to identify it as some kind of domestic cat. But if he wasn’t I don’t understand the point of his Savannah Cat post.
But the best thing about this is that he quoted my post from here, showing that despite his protestations he does sometimes read posts about him in the Pit.
He also posts in the Pit sometimes, so he’s definitely fill of shit.
and it turns out they were actually Savannah cats all along? Talk about egg on your face!
Oh come on now, give him a break. He’s just trying to disprove the obviously ridiculous theory that Savannah cats have been hunted to extinction by humans.
Dingoes ate my savanna cat!
Quoth DrDeth: “Now, yes, it looks most like a ocelot, most likely a escaped pet.” Illiterate fucking twit is also doubling down on illiteracy.
Amend that to “dingoes ate an savanna cat”
Shouldn’t there be a “Miss” in between those brackets?
yeah yeah I realise you were having fun with the “a” / “an” thing.
ETA - ah, then again - those were parentheses you used, which has thrown my whole universe out of whack now.
