I pit incompetent furniture companies

So I ordered a bedframe from a furniture company a few weeks ago for the new apartment (moving in with the girlfriend).

The frame arrived and was missing four pieces – special nuts that help hold vital bolts in place.

  1. I call to get the missing parts shipped out. I have to do this twice to get things going.

  2. The parts arrive a little under a week later. The nuts are the wrong size, so I call back again to let them know. I ask the person on the phone their email and send them a picture clearly showing the difference between the wrong nut and the right nut, with measurements and all.

  3. A week goes by. Nothing. Turns out they screwed up something regarding the shipping info and nothing was sent. They claim they’ll send another package. I ask them to triple check, politely – that it was the right one this time.

  4. A few days go by, new package arrive. Still the wrong size. In fact, the exact same crap we got before.

  5. I call back again, wind up sending pictures to a supervisor, write a strongly-worded email to the last employee I sent pics to, etc.

  6. New parts are overnighted. Still the wrong size.

Seriously, this is getting to be just patently absurd. These guys are incompetent asshats. I always have to call back to find that they can’t get their shit together and ship things out the first time I talk to them. Not only that, but I don’t understand why they ask for all this data when they don’t do anything with it. There are obvious size differences here, guys – fucking communicate!

They’re giving me a $50 discount but honestly, that’s not enough. I’ve been sleeping without a frame for weeks now and it’s absolute BS. This is not a common part, either. I’ve been to 6 hardware stores here in the city and called several others… nobody carries this part because it’s made overseas or something.

And it’s not like I am ordering from some no-name company either – these guys are well established and well-known.

So yeah, I pit incompetent fuckface furniture companies that could be run better by drowned kittens and nutless monkeys.

Can you get the parts from a hardware store? I go to a hardware store that has a nuts and bolt section that also carries nuts and bolts for furniture. It’ll be a few bucks but if they have them, then you won’t have to sleep on the floor.

The OP states they have been to 6 hardware stores and this part is not available as it is made overseas.

I think it might be time to tell them you’re sending it back and want a full refund, plus return shipping costs. You could go to the nearest Bedbugs-R-Us mattress store and get a bedframe with all the right parts.

If they refuse, do a chargeback on your credit card.

If you don’t want to do that, go back to the showroom and insist that the manager pull the correct nuts out of the display model.

Taking bets on those being the wrong size too, with incorrectly-sized-bolts installed on the display model to compensate…

Good point. OP, are you absolutely certain you have the right bolts?

Yes, the bolts are correct.

There are little holes in the frame that allow the nuts to be inserted, and then the bolt can be threaded through the front of the frame through the nut. The problem is that there were only a couple of nuts sent with the initial frame, which were correct, but we were missing four more.

The nuts they keep sending are too long. You can put them in the hole, or they can handle the bolt standalone, but you can’t put the nut inside the hole fully AND thread the bolt through because the holes don’t line up at all.

Nutless monkeys, or just monkeys with the wrong size nuts?

I’d like to know which company this is, so I can avoid buying from them in the future.

This was my main reason for opening the thread.

“Hay” plus “Needle”

WTF is “Hayneedle?” And why are you so reluctant just to say the name out loud? What’s the worst that could happen? Are you afraid that they might see this thread and refuse to send you the parts that you need?

That’s very rude and inconsiderate of you, BTW, and will be reporting your post.

I didn’t say it outright because no, I don’t want it easily Googled.

Hahahahaha. This is the pit. You put the thread here. Why did you bother to waste a mod’s time looking at your stupid report? Hahahaha!

OK. Not sure how that’s rude. But from a simple Google search, Hayneedle is apparently a web-based furniture retailer. I’m not sure how well-established or well-known they are. They could simply be a front for Chinese manufacturers. And my guess is that is exactly what it is. BTW, that would explain the problems with receiving the parts, if they have to be shipped from Asia.

And actually, having the thread Googled might actually help you. If the retailer finds the thread, they might step in to resolve the issue.

As I said, I never heard of this company, but according to this list, they are number 77 among online retailers with online sales of $265 million.

Finally got a hold of a rep who was respectful and helpful, but it’s been like rolling dice, here.

I still have no clue how long it’s going to take until we get the right parts.

Why not cut them to the proper length? Hacksaw and a file should work.

I considered this but lack those items. I don’t have anything that’s good for grinding down metal and I am pretty sure I’d hurt myself with a hacksaw
