I don’t think you understand subtleties of tone or point of view at all. I think you’re a “it’s black or white” “love it or leave it” “it’s us against them” “you’re either good or bad” type person and you don’t - no, you won’t understand the shades in between.
Did you read his post about why police forces were started? There are different points of view - sometimes if you stop to listen, you’ll learn a little something.

I am not going to speak for Scumpup, but for myself, being accused time and time again of being a bloodthirsty gun-toting redneck with an itchy trigger finger just WAITING to kill someone with my shiny oiled-up shotgun tends to annoy the hell out of me, especially since (a) with possibly one or two exceptions, the majority of people who supported the use of guns in home defense in those threads explicitly stated that guns would be a last resort, and only used in a situation where there was a possible threat of harm and (b) I don’t even own a gun. That, and the consistent attempts by Ivan to shift blame to the victims in every case. It’s always “you only were forced to shoot the thief because you chose to have shitty locks and you allowed this to happen.” Shit like that. With Ivan, it’s ALWAYS someone else’s fault, never the criminal.
And yes, Ivan, you are a braggart. You boasted about how you were able to get into places in ways that would amaze us, for example. And you did successfully make those threads all about you. I knew as soon as the “castle theory” thread went up, it wouldn’t be long before you came in and turned all eyes to yourself. I even made a thread about preventing home invasions JUST FOR YOU so you could preach away about preventive security, and you ignored it, because you were having too much fun getting all the attention in the other thread. Gee. maybe I’m dense. If some guy were to break into my home, wouldn’t that be his fault? He chose to come in uninvited. I don’t drag them in from the street or anything. Hell yes it would be his fault. I think then I would have to side with those who were saying they would react in whatever way they would react, given a possible threat to their safety or lives, and given there is no time for calm and reasoned analysis. In other words, run or fight. Don’t waste time thinking. I don’t believe in any “duty to retreat”. Run if you can, but it should NOT be legally required… there may be no place to run to, you may be so completely surprised it isn’t an option. I believe in trying to protect your life, and the idea that you can’t read the guy’s mind to know what he intended. But if HE decides to run, let him. The threat is over.

According to Ivan in those threads its NEVER the criminals fault he broke into your house and the criminal had the best of intentions while violating your property. Its the big mean homeowner who is at fault for having shitty locks or nice stuff that was too much of a temptation for the prison kitty.

Break in my home, I will act in my own best interest. If that means running, I will (if I can). If that means killing the guy, I will (if I can). I won’t think (no time for that when it’s happening), I will just do whatever I do. But, there will be no regret or second guessing. Run or shoot, I intend to survive the encounter. He made the choice to break in. I intend to live. He takes his own chances. My own life is more important to me than the life of the gun/knife/ballbat/whatever wielding break in guy. If that sounds selfish or cold blooded, too bad.
