I pit King of the Hill.

Ironic statement, that.

Oh, please please please can I take this for my sig?

You’re getting upset because a cartoon may or may not have made fun of something.

We are fighting ignorance.

You just don’t know when to say uncle.

Stop watching the show.

That’s right, man. Be careful about what sorority you let your daughter attend, because a lot of them are fronts for brainwashing cults dedicated to building a fruit-jelly empire. And UFO watchers often see the real thing. And Texas townships commonly hold “Bull Runs” in which the runners are separated from the bulls by high fences.

And who’s up for another bowl?

How do you hide money from a hippie?

Put it under the soap!

I don’t think there IS a token black character.

[satire]
That’s how racist they are!!!1!!1!

Unlike some of the more meanspirited respondants to this thread, I dig hippies. Some of my dearest friends have been hippies and I think a lot of them are simply the salt of the earth. That being said, I’ve also known a TON, mostly wannabes and hanger-ons who, unfortunately, fufill a lot of the sterotypes that hippies get mocked for. Sad but true.

That being said, this episode of KOTH made me laugh my ass off.
How do you know a hippie’s broken into your house?

He’s still there.

Hey! I’m pissed off because of how the show affects people that have the same wrong opinions of hippies, not me. This show reinforces the stereotype that London_Calling displayed. The fact is the exact opposite.

I can stop watching the show. But what does that do? How does that help?

I thought the new VB had protections against double-posting. Huh.

That was good
and kinda what I was thinking.

We don’t dislike hippies…unless they’re ignorant hippies. There’s plenty of freaks here at the SDMB. Lighten up, it’s a fucking cartoon for crying out loud…read a book.

A lot of people have negative opinions about hippies. For those who do, the show solidifies those beliefs. For those who don’t, the show was a joke.

Try to convince the anti-hippie types that hippies are okay. If they don’t change their minds, get the fuck over it and move on.

Everybody has the right to an opinion.

Peggy is probably my favorite character in the show. But she’s my favorite because she’s so freaking dumb, but always talks with a tone of voice that shows she’s obviously convinced she knows everything. She is, as they say, a character “you just love to hate.”

How does this thread help do anything except re-inforce the stereotype of hippies as being shrill, dim, and totally out of touch with reality?

I haven’t heard a single hippie on this thread. Wait! You’re not talking about me are you? Why I haven’t been so awfully insulted in my whole lif… Wait a sec. Nevermind…

“I know why drugs are bad. If you do drugs you’re a hippie. And hippies suck.”

“Dolphins, eskimos, who cares? It’s all a bunch of tree hugging hippie crap.”

“Screw you, hippie.”

“Hippies, hippies… they want to save the world but all they do is smoke pot and play frisbee!”

If you consider “King of the Hill” to be an accurate representation of Midwestern life, or intended to be taken as such…yeah, you’re pretty much a fucking moron. The show is tongue-in-cheek, pretty much all the time.

At least, I’ve never heard anyone refer to butane as a “bastard gas.”

WTF is your problem prisoner? I thought there was a rule against joke threads in the Pit. You can’t possibly believe what your saying. The hippies portrayed are FICTIONAL characters on a FICTIONAL show on a network that uses SATIRE as a comedic device. I suggest you remove your head from you ass before speaking next time. :wally

We are fighting ignorace. It’s obvious you aren’t listening.

Congratulations! You’ve just demonstrated that you know how to take a quote WAY out of context. Let’s see if I can do the same.

You see, the difference is that while my quote is still accurate, yours is bullshit.

This statement has already been thoroughly (and properly) ridiculed, so I’ll just ask a question:

Do you really think that it’s an all-or-nothing situation? That either a show is satire and gets a free pass to exaggerate, or it isn’t and can’t poke fun at anything or anyone?

Some shows are more satirical than others, but that doesn’t mean that the less satirical shows can’t . . . aw, fuck it. You get the picture.

Since when is Texas in the Midwest?

And, yeah, the OP is an idiot. Dude, if you believe animated comedy shows to be accurate representations of societal attitudes, you’ve got much bigger problems to worry about.
