Is there a reason you haven’t read the entire thread yet to see the discussion about the “oh, just ignore her” responses? Or did you, like the other Opal defenders, decide to just threadshit?

No, I read the entire Pit thread. Which lead me to some other links. which led me to page 5, where the pit thread had completely run out of steam, and the op, who was going to ask for the thread to be closed, decided to leave it open for those that really can’t get her out of their systems.
So, no… at this point, I don’t consider it a threadshit at all. Maybe if I did it on page 2, but now? This thread is a mess. The OP is bored. I haven’t detracted from the quality of this thread one iota.
Jesus, Kolga. What’s really your issue? That she’s allowed to continue to post? She’s simply not all there (or here). That pathetic post about how she’s a new person is so similar to another long standing poster’s apology after a famous flame-out that it could have been written by the same person! They post the same thing, to get the same results… “tell me how great I am. Tell me how I’m not an annoying poster. Tell me what a valuable member of this “community” I am and how it would be so much worse if I wasn’t able to post here anymore!” She actually has people speaking of her as if her departure from the board forever would be a big blow to the SDMB. Why read that drivel?

Although I think what was done to her was pretty low, and the work of a nasty little shower of shits, I have to be honest in one thing. I had always heard that she was a bit of a stunner, as in very good looking. Erm… no. She ain’t. Not ugly as such, but certainly not fap worthy.
But then, I always found it pathetic that every time some chubby message board bint posted a picture of her cleavage there would be a gaggle of losers pretending that she was the sexiest thing on sliced bread. There was one useless shut-in that posted her picture a while back and that very thing happened. Silly internet losers.
So yeah. I may not be much of a looker either, but Opal? Didn’t live up to hype.
Do you see someone in pain, which Opal clearly is, and you wish not only for her continued pain but also that it increases and that you have the ability to observe it?

Not about Opal, per se, but that you could view someone’s pain and take joy in it. I hope that you can see the sickness in your statement at some point in the future and learn from it.
As for Opal? I know her, personally. We’ve spoken and interacted. I’ve hosted her and fed her. I also know that she has issues, a great many, that she is confronted with. She has, from time to time, shown poor impulse control and made unwise decisions. But I also know that most of the time she tries to be better than she is. Which, frankly, all of us should attempt to do.
I only wish her the best in finding her feet again and for a happy future. Honestly, as I age that’s something I hope for all people. Because it’s not a common event and the world could use more happy and centered people.

Why on earth would you post this? Would you say this in real life, knowing the person whose looks you are trashing was standing right there and could hear every word?
I think Drain Bead in ATMB is spot-on: this thread has really brought out the petty, vicious, and nasty in a bunch of people who are unintentionally exposing themselves as sad, small-minded, douche bags.

Easy there big fella. “Everyone”? Don’t buckety-paint everyone with the same brush. For the record I don’t dislike O at all. I don’t want her to leave and I damn sure don’t want to see her hurt maliciously by others here or anywhere else.
But let’s do keep a bit of perspective. A lot of her behaviours are annoying (see the OP) and a lot of posters feel she is given special treatment (see the ATMB thread). She has been posting maniacally of late (as a former substance abuser I have my theories why but that’s another topic) like an expert on whatever. The fact that she brought other board drama here is just the latest in her attention whoring. No sane (sober?) person wanting that ‘issue’ to go away would open a thread here on the subject. It just seems like she’s begging for folks to track down her drama.
So yeah, her drama-ing gets old and some of us want to call her on it but I don’t see that as bullying, just venting a bit.
Lighten up, Francis, if you’re not acting like an egregious asshole, then you are not included in “everyone.” I would think that is common sense, but I forget that this is the Dope. If you don’t see it as nasty and bullying, fine, we see things differently, we don’t have to agree, but look again at the post I quoted - you really don’t think that is malicious and hurtful?
