One might argue, depending on how one understands senility, that he has already so turned. In office. All the same, even if he’s not senile, he’s certainly not as cognitively sound as he was 20 years ago, and nobody is restraining him.
I wouldn’t put the odds at 50% or Smapti’s typically excessively optimistic <.5%, but more in the 10~15% range, increasing as time goes on and the pressure of November elections (which are unlikely to go his way) mounts. That’s low, but not so low as to be reassuring, and certainly higher that it would have been had we elected someone functional of either party.
Spoilering my reply to MrDibble, since it's a hijack from the current discussion.
He says, while his own finger is about to fall off.
All I did was take one line to show a bit of exasperation at what I consider a tired argument, and the fatalism it seemed to be being used to support. I argued against the idea that a progressive or leftist “wouldn’t be allowed to win anyways.”
Yes, I also said it was dumb to attack the OP when he was trying to find common ground with us. I “defended” the same guy I excoriated earlier. Because it would be unfair for me to call him out for his shit and not at least touch on it from the other side. I particularly didn’t like the posts (not yours) that were dehumanizing him.
I know I have made some pretty shitty posts in the past. I cringe when they show up again, full of pointless fury over minute things that completely derail whatever point I may have had.
But that post isn’t one of those. I stand behind it.
and yes, my little snark at the beginning is finger wagging. I decided to indulge a bit, since you directly went after me. It’s frustrating when people call me out for the things they do all the time.
I mostly only agree with his cries against fatalism and the newer stuff where he talks about how we need to work together. I don’t actually have a problem with the talk about genocide.
Of course you need to tailor your approach to your audience. But that includes not seeming like you’re downplaying things to the progressives and leftists. We’re not concerned about what may happen, but what is happening.
As for the chance that Trump nukes anyone? I dunno. This attack on Iran is just so ill-conceived. Not just that it didn’t need to happen, but it’s being executed so poorly. Even comparing it to the “War on Terror” only makes Bush look better by comparison.
For my sanity, I’ve stopped trying to predict things. I do agree the chances are way too fucking high. But that fact doesn’t really change what I can actually do.
My thinking is this; Trump may be an idiot, a manchild, a sadist, and suffering from dementia, but he’s almost certainly been told that if he fires a nuke at anyone anywhere, Russia and/or China will retaliate, and he will likely not survive. He doesn’t want to die and he certainly doesn’t want to be president of a smoldering pile of radioactive rubble where he won’t be able to golf in Florida every weekend.
The trouble is that Trump’s megalomania makes him unlikely to listen to anyone, and he’s so ineffably fucking stupid that he is incapable of ever anticipating the consequences of his actions. If either of the above were not true the US wouldn’t be blowing the shit out of Iran to its own detriment. He’s also far too stupid to even begin to fathom the consequences of a nuclear war.
And he probably believes that if China or Russia were to send nukes to the US, it would be protected by some imaginary missile defense system like his comical Big Beautiful Golden Dome, and if one of his golf courses gets blown up, well, he has a couple of spares, and that’s all that matters. And BTW what on earth would make you think he waits until the weekend to go golfing?
Have you heard him talk about “the power of nuclear”? It clearly TERRIFIES him. One of the recurring themes in his rambles on the topic is that we don’t need to worry about global warming because “the real global warming is nuclear”. His own sense of self-preservation is probably going to keep him from doing anything rash in that regard.
There’s a website dedicated to tracking his golf schedule. Aside from holidays, he exclusively golfs on the weekend.
Once again-Who is near him that will tell him this? Give us some actual names! Those near him will wear the wrong sized shoes that he gives them just to please The Emperor’s New Brains.
Yes, but being scared is not the same as understanding consequences. And remember, lickspittle sycophants are constantly telling him what they think he wants to hear, so he is not even getting full access to reality on which to base his decisions.
Well, if he starts a nuclear war and gets us all killed because everyone is too scared to tell him they’re all going to die especially him, then I’ll owe you a Coke.
It’s as real an answer as your question is. Nobody in the administration is going to choose death in nuclear fire over not telling Trump what he wants to hear.
I understand. You cannot tell us who will stop this manchild that has fired people that have the capacity to rein him in and replaced them with people that would serve anybody that strokes their ego.
“Nobody talks about nuclear…the biggest problem we have in the whole world. It’s not global warming, it’s nuclear warming,” Trump told Fox News host Tucker Carlson in an interview that aired Tuesday night.
“And all it takes is one madman…and it’s only a matter of seconds. You don’t have to wait 200 to 300 years for it to happen,” he said.
Irrelevant. The main issue is that Trump is mercurial and impulsive and has the emotional maturity of 6-year-old toddler. No one like that should be allowed control of a pop-gun, let alone a nuclear arsenal.
