That fact that you are worried about my mental health for wondering about the fact there doesn’t seem to be anyone in authority to stop Trump, instead of the mental health of the Madman-In-Chief himself is not a point in your favor.
Which, as he’s surely been told, it WON’T be when Purin and Xi start raining down thousands of ICBMs on his ballroom.
I don’t recall saying I wasn’t worried about the latter, but in the end I can’t control either of you. If you want to spend the rest of your days in pants-shitting terror, that’s your prerogative.
Giving a shit is equivalent to “pants-shitting terror”.
You haven’t changed one fucking bit, have you?
Do you think pissing and moaning online about how we’re all doomed and there’s nothing anyone can do about and we shouldn’t even bother trying is going to accomplish anything?
I am not sure if he doesn’t know what hurts people, doesn’t care what hurts people, or (most likely) a bit of both. “Wiser heads will prevail” doesn’t mean jack shit if wiser heads aren’t allowed within shouting distance of him.
Czarcasm: I gave you the answer upthread, The Joint Chiefs of Staff, aka “My generals”, to Trump. And Smapti is correct about Trump speechifying about how serious nuclear war is. So I put the odds at less than 10%. The odds are too high and they are driven by the fact that Trump is erratic, mercurial, and impulsive, precisely the sort of person you don’t want in charge of the nuclear football. But Trump grasps that nukes are thought to be scary and he likes playing to the crowd. So this threat isn’t an active one.
People have been saying ever since he first took office that “the adults in the room” would stop him, but it never happens. The exact identity of the promised savior(s) against Trump changes, but he just keeps doing as he pleases.
If Trump decides he feels like nuking some nation, then that nation will be nuked and nobody will jump out of the woodwork to stop him.
And again, they don’t have the authority to do so.
And again:
Der is correct though that nobody will stop Trump, especially in the 2nd season when he replaced professionals with lickspittles. But nobody here is arguing otherwise, AFAICT.
And there’s that strawman again. I’m surprised it had any straw left in it, given the number of times you’ve knocked it down.
How’s that pissing and moaning online about how things aren’t that bad and how cooler heads will prevail (even though there’s no evidence of any cooler heads in the current administration and things keep getting worse including multiple commanding officers declaring that they’re working toward Armageddon) working out for you?
I doubt Trump will launch a nuclear war. But things will still continue to get worse. And we’re doing what we can to fight against it. No one is saying we shouldn’t, except in your head.
So far? Pretty good. The world hasn’t ended yet. And if it does, none of us are going to be around to say I told you so. If the world’s gonna end tomorrow, I’m not gonna waste the time I have left worrying about things I can’t change.
So:
- The goalpost for you being wrong has now been moved to “the world ending”.
- You’re saying there’s nothing anyone can do about what’s happening and we shouldn’t even bother trying.
Got it.
What I find interesting in this recent back-and-forth with Smapti et al. is the assumption that seems to be imbedded within, which is that the usage of a nuclear weapon by the US on Iran in the current conflict would inexorably lead to a general strategic nuclear exchange between the US and Russia and/or China.
I don’t think this is at all a likely consequence of the glassing of Tehran or Qom. Why would the leadership of Russia and China see is this as an obligation for them to commit nuclear suicide?
I think the actual denouement of such a nuking would be far bleaker, in its own way. It would serve to normalize the usage of nuclear weapons by the great powers upon the weak, even as the bulk of their strategic weaponry remains in reserve for ostensible defense against a nuclear peer.
He doesn’t understand/believe that HE will also likely die in a nuclear war. Not one bit. This is narcissism and ego mania up to the nuclear level baby.
Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.
As I said in the OP, Trump might start a nuclear war by mistake. He’s a toddler who found a loaded gun.
So what’s the best way to prevent that from happening? Get Trump out of office.
Coincidentally, what’s the best way to prevent Trump from doing other terrible things? Get him out of office.
The priority should be getting Trump out of office as soon as possible. So let’s talk impeachment.
The Republicans aren’t impeaching Trump. So we need to replace them in Congress with a Democratic majority. And we need to make the impeachment of Donald Trump the main issue of the 2026 elections.
Telling people we need to impeach Trump because he’s going to start a nuclear war is not a great tactic - even if you believe it’s true. Because even if it’s true, it sounds extreme and that will alienate some swing voters.
A much more effective tactic is to talk about Trump raping young women. This is a crime that Trump has already committed. Swing voters will see this as a credible reason to impeach Trump.
So we should be talking about impeaching Trump for rape in order to get people to vote against the Republicans in order to get Trump removed from office in order to prevent a nuclear war.
He has been impeached, twice, and him getting away with rape is pretty much a done deal…so this, of course, is the path to nowhere you want us to take.
Agreed! In what may be Trump’s only totally honest statement, he said he could, “stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody”, and not lose any voters. Apparently, from what we’ve seen in Congress, his statement applies to them as well.
You are aware that we have another 10 months before there can be any movement to get him out of office, right?
I don’t think a nuclear attack on Iran would lead to global thermonuclear war, but I do think it would lead to focus away from Trump’s grifting ands lying, and that some people would find it strong and manly. So if the wrong person gets his ear, I can see it happening.
Fortunately, I don’t think any of his evil string-pullers (or attempted string-pullers) are quite that evil: greedy and crooked and racist, but not killers for the sake of it. So far.
Every single Trumper that appears before Congress and gets away scot-free with smirking, evading and outright in-their-face lying strengthens his power.
Also, as has been mentioned, he’s already been impeached twice. Impeachment has little to no consequence on its own. Removal from office only happens if the Senate votes to convict, which requires a 2/3 majority. Not likely to happen.
