If he did that my guess is that the whole prison population would line up for a shot…or two…or three.

I have a bad needle phobia and I can see the difference. Tattoo needles don’t jab deep into the muscle. While I’d never get a tattoo either it makes sense to me to fear shots and blood draws more.

Reminds me of the attending doc I worked with during residency at the VA, whose response to a vet who’d expressed some trepidation about a fine needle aspiration was “Big war hero afraid of a little needle? The needle’s smaller than a bullet!”

My uncle is a veterinarian (I swear, this is relevant.) When I was a kid, he used to give rabies clinics, where he’d take over a county warehouse and people would bring their critters in for a $5 rabies shot. He did this on Sundays, so often recruited family members to help. I helped out several years in a row, sometimes registering the rabies tags to each animal, sometimes as the vet tech.
[Relevance alert] In my experience, the little dogs would stand there, get their shot, and keep on wagging. They wouldn’t even flinch or anything. No reaction to being stabbed with a needle. The big dogs always yelped and cried and acted like my uncle was trying to cut their tail off.
