I pit Sampiro

and all the posters who used his thread on “Nigaz” to perpetuate all the old stereotypical sayings, and some new ones, I’m sure. I’m confidant that the notion was to make fun of them, but I couldn’t even finish reading the thread I was so offended. To me it seemed that posters were relishing the opportunity a little bit too much.

My presumption is that it all seems like innocent fun. But you know, it ain’t.

Sorry, but I don’t know how to link to the thread or I would have.

Here is the thread.

I tend to agree with you, which is why I didn’t get more than about ten posts into it.

Oh fuck off, it was funny.

Meh. It’s a company called Nigaz. There are lots of pop culture references to “niggas.” Some people think it’s funny. If you don’t, then you don’t, no big deal, no need to start a pit thread about it.

The idea of the thread wasn’t to disparage blacks, and if anyone did in that thread, it’s not Sampiro’s fault.

I can’t be the only one who thought the thread was about Nigerian scams. The nigger reference slipped right by.

What’s funny about it?

One assumes you read no more than the title?

That, in this day and age, a non-English speaker wouldn’t get it, because MOST (English-speaking) people would avoid it. I grew up down South, Back in the Day, and I cringed along with Sampiro.

Everything? It was a hilarious thread, and the OP is a whiny little bitch.

You can’t possibly be serious.

I thought it was pretty amusing, though it got a little old after the 12th or 13th iteration of someone posting what was basically the same joke.

Hardly Sampiro’s fault, in any case.

I bristled a bit but come-the-fuck-on, in todays business climate and sophistication everyone (yes, even Nigerians) knows to check their name in every language possible to avoid just such things. The other thread would have been started if they would have used Pusseez instead.

The thing is, even if you looked up “Nigaz” in an English dictionary, you wouldn’t come up with anything. It’s a lot harder to check for “spelled sort of like a slang word which is a corruption of another word but sounds the same when pronounced according to the rules of the language” in every language.

I’d like to state for the record that I saw this recreational outrage coming from 2.3 parsecs away.

Chappelle already did a sketch about a family of WASPs called The Niggars. He’s a comedic genius and it was only so-so funny.

I could be wrong, but I think that was actually the sketch he referenced when he talked about fleeing the US (for, appropriately enough, Africa) – a caucasian crew member was ‘laughing just a bit too hard’ and it gave him pause.

Somebody had to start the thread. Every damn English speaking general message board on the planet cracked the same joke. I thought it was pretty funny, but I’m not black so I feel bad for those who were offended.

The first rule is don’t bother checking a dictionary. Seriously - ask a native speaker.

It was the sketch where he’s flying first class and trying to decide on the in-flight meal. A miniature Dave Chappelle in whiteface is on his left shoulder, trying to get him to order the fish, and a miniature Dave dressed like Stepin Fetchit is on his right, tempting him to get the fried chicken.

Just to ask, are you accusing those posters of being racist?

Notassmartasithought is not present at the moment, but the part of the post that you quoted seems very carefully worded. The OP speaks only about how things seem to him or her and doesn’t slap any labels onto anyone.

Surely you wouldn’t disagree that the posters in that thread were having some fun with the puns they were coming up with or that the pun was based on a dialectical or slang version of the word Negroes. And I’m reasonably certain that you would agree that derivatives of that word are sometimes used to ridicule black people. The OP felt that some of the posters were relishing the opportunity to make fun with those words a little too much.

In my own opinion of what is tasteful and not tacky, I would have to agree. But I have no idea if those posting are racist, tasteless, inebriated, ill-bred, shallow, cruel, over-heated, or self-satisfied.

I can’t help but notice that it doesn’t take much to get them going. Probably one of Sampiro’s little experiments.
