I believe Tom was saying you insulted other posters by “wondering” if hunters are bed-wetters when you know there are hunters posting in that thread. And incidentally, I believe the MacDonald criteria for identifying serial killers has been discredited.

The idea of going away for the weekend and coming back with some perspective is a great idea. My advice (which I don’t always take): when you think of a clever zinger in Great Debates, type it out, read it, smile smugly at how funny and clever you are, and then erase it. Don’t leave it in the post.
Also, don’t don’t don’t make the argument personal. Again, I don’t always follow this, but I try to. Sometimes it’s extremely tempting to make things personal, when they person you’re arguing with is such a disingenuous twit (according to your own reckoning); but even then, you oughtta resist making it personal.

If I may, ivan’s shtick is to state a premise, then repeatedly (if not interminably) restate the premise. Every post of his in the big game hunter thread was just a variant on “big game hunters are bad”. Every post of his in this thread is “I’m only kidding, you jerk!” I don’t see an actual debate or even a plausible attempt at debate in either.
Actually, I am. I reported your insult to all hunters to the Mods before you posted your half-hearted “apology.” Why report it rather than confront you with it? Because 1) it’s what we are supposed to do around here, and 2) because I’m on vacation and have better things to do than devote much time to the likes of you.

I was considering becoming a mod, but have, on the basis of this thread abandonded the idea.
I mean it would be a great job, the gold plated lear jet with the Kundalinically adept flight attendants, the gourmet meals and of course the intimate connections to the secret and public world leaders. Don’t even mention the money and the hot tub filled with olive oil and supermodels on illegal aphrodisiacs.
But the idea of being e-mailed by every whinging bozo that gets their feelings hurt because not every one agrees that bisexual ocelots should be painted pink and taught to fart the local national anthem agrees with them… WELL its just not worth it!
In all seriousness I enjoy this board because of the richness of viewpoint it offers. On almost any subject you get the bisexual ocelot crowd, and you also get some great recipes for strawberry jam. And just about evereything in between. And that’s just on a thread about the history of fire hydrants.

I can’t recall any specifics off the top of my head, but I seem to recall Ivan making some decent posts. No, I don’t agree with his tone here and in other threads, but let’s not burn him at the stake just yet. Now, if he continues to add wood to the fire here, burn away, but right now I think all we’ve got is some kindling.
