I can identify with Ed/Not Cecil’s predicament. He was considered the iconoclast of his day and advocated actually fighting ignorance instead of using knowledge to do better at Trivial Pursuit. Now his role has been made obsolete and he’s struggling to remain relevant.
Maybe SmartAleq is right, but framing the point with personal grudges and caustic gloating was an ugly and prickish way to present it.
His role is indeed obsolete but for different reasons at different levels. At a tool level, it was obsolete through search engines excepting those rare questions it’s difficult to find information on through a search.
As a goal, it is obsolete because ignorance won.

While @SmartAlec has some valid points it was inappropriate to attack the OP in the uncivil personal manner that he did in ATMB forum. Not seeing how he did not earn official warnings. Banning? No, but he should at least be warned against such behavior officially or this place could fall into chaos. The mods should moderate, even on this one. This is not about bashing hero worshipping, its about the board rules of behavior that have been clearly violated.
BTW, I’d still like a coffee cup and some form of paid membership as before.
