Despite the desire of religious people to pretend that they alone are human, I’m perfectly capable of appreciating things like beauty. And it’s amusing that you bring up comics as something I supposedly can’t appreciate due to my atheism given that my username is from a webcomic written by a Mormon.

My post had NOTHING to do with “your” atheism. Or anyone’s atheism. The atheists I know are better people than a lot of the Theists I know, but that’s not even relevant. Because my post was not about Atheism. It was about being bitter.

Who’s defending religion? Certainly not me. Organized religion is a pox on humanity which has done far more harm than good, and continues to do far more harm than good. But that doesn’t mean it’s proper to attack the book that it claims to be based on. Frankly, modern Christianity is so far removed from Biblical liturgy that it’s a total joke – there’s no clear definition of “HELL” in the Bible, for instance, “The Rapture” doesn’t exist at all, and even the Theory of Evolution itself can be supported Biblically by Genesis 1:1 if you assume “day” means “eon” or “indefinite period of time” (in fact, the original Hebrew text does mean exactly that!)

As for demonizing humanity irrespective of religion, well…try playing an online computer game. See how many trolls, sharks & griefers you run into. It gets worse when you realize many of them are NOT bored children, but are in fact grown adults with kids of their own! :eek:

I’m no Bible expert, but was raised in the Baptist church and I don’t remember most of that stuff he posted. Now, The Bible was written by men and then printed, translated, blah de blah all over tarnation, so yeah, there are some contradictions.

And as someone else mentioned, Old Testament is pretty fire and brimstone, but the examples the OP gave? I’d like to know where he got those ideas, not in a snotty way in a perplexed, “where does it say THAT?” way.

FTR, I can see where he gets the emotionally outraged part of it. There are a lot of hypocrites in the church (Protestant, I can’t attest to other branches), but there are in all walks of life also, so this isn’t really a Christian, or Christian God kinda thing, it’s a "person who is using God to further his un-Christian ways " thing.

Christian means believes in Christ’s life, death, resurrection, died for our sins etc. Period. It doesn’t mean you get to burn gay people at the stake, we’re not supposed to shove our religion down others’ throats even. The Bible specifically states that you let God judge. (and none of us, not even Christians, have any idea how Judgment Day is going to go, so people falsely calling themselves Christians and doing bad things in His name, are idiots, not Christians).

As to the “Bible says to follow Hitler” thing? I"m going to take a wild stab here and say that he might be referring to the “render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and render unto God the things that are God’s” part. It’s only one statement in the Bible, other verses and chapters make it clear that (for Christians) God’s laws trump man’s laws, even Hitler’s. Those that did evil in God’s name in Hitler’s time weren’t Christians and they weren’t following either the Bible or God’s law.

The rest of the stuff, I’m stumped on. I can’t even guess where he got it from, but it’s not the Bible. Maybe some Phelpish type pamphlet of insanity?

If God knew ahead of time what his creation of humans would do and created them anyway he must have created them with faults and then blames them for their faults. If I knew ahead of time one of my children would harm millions of people I would not conceive such a child to begin with, I would expect God to do better than me!
