There should be a rule about this: "People will not wear the same fashion twice in their lifetimes.
The 70s were bad enough the first time and darn if I would have worn bell-bottom pants again a couple of years back. What’s up with designers? Nothing new has come up since the 70s.
This model can carry the look off, but I agree, many people can’t. (Part of the reason she pulls that outfit off is the nice boots, and the fact that it looks like her shirt is held together by her cummerbund.) For those that can, more power to you. It’s not what I’d wear, but that’s ok.
I first started seeing them last winter, worn with knee boots. IIRC, that’s how they were worn in the 70s. Not attractive, but too impratical to stick around, or so I thought. Without the boots, they look like “Church Pants”. It’s what all the female fundies around here wear, perferably in denim.
I ordered these. They came, I tried them on and they look great on me. I tried them on with these cute wedge shoes I have and my tall, stiletto boots. Very sexy.
I never knew what those were called either. I went clothes shopping yesterday and was appalled at all the blouses with ruffley fronts I saw. I thought those were ugly back in 1982, when I was in kindergarten and Tootsie-wear was apparently all the rage.
On the other hand, I hope they’ll start making Hypercolor t-shirts again. Clothing made of neon-colored plastic for everyone!
UrbanChic, you’re tall, aren’t you? I’ve started coming around to the gaucho (despite being vehemently against them as recently as two weeks ago). The knit ones look so comfy and have a nice casual look with a tank and flip flops. And the woven ones like you’ve purchased look fresh with knee high boots and a sweater.
I’m worried 'cause I’ve got such short legs. They’ll probably come down to my ankles (capri pants look like floods on me). I’m thinking a slimmer silhouette, like these or these will look better on me.
Nah, I’m only 5’3". I come off as a little taller because a) I almost always wear heels, b) my legs are long for my height and c) in my mind’s eye I’m tall, so I carry myself (even when posting to a message board) as such.
Good thinking. I like both of those. I like the cuff detail on the latter pair a lot.
5’3"? Really? I’ve seen your picture before but for some reason thought you looked like you were a imposing 5’11". Huh, I’m actually (a tiny bit) taller. (I wear the heels too so I actually show up over the edge of the cubicles.)
I’ll have to go on a trip to Nordstroms and try some stuff on. I’m trying to be good for a while 'cause I’m going to be in Boston for a race in a month and wanna have a nice chunk to shop with. Mmmmm, Filene’s Basement…
Just don’t wear these with a red shirt. When flared cropped pants first started showing up, there were a lot of women running around with what I like to call the “doomed ensign” look. Especially with boots.
