Heh. When I get that “this page cannot be displayed”
I do work for a few minutes.
'The hell?
It just timed out a bunch of times for me too, while trying to post to another thread.
Maybe it’s a statement on your posts.
I must concur. I’ve lost a number of posts recently, some of them things I’d really rather have not been gobbled by the hamsters. I actually composed a lengthy one today, and the whole goddamn thing vaporized. Luckily another doper said everything I wanted to say and more, leaving me little more to contribute than “what he said”, but still.
And now *I’ve * flashed back to prom night.
Usually I copy/paste any kind of lengthy responses or posts I post to online message boards or the like before I hit ‘send’, that way if the gerbils go on a ravenous rampage, I can simply paste the reply back in.
Don’t know if this helps you, but I usually have a notepad window open for such things, and it’s saved me many a potentially vortex-sucked post.
That said, I’ve been getting far more ‘timeouts’ than usual on the SDMB, lately, even during the very early AM hours EST (I work nights, so that’s when I’m viewing).
And for Firefox (and probably other Mozilla-based browsers, but I’m not sure) there’s an extension called “Save Text Area” that makes it way easier to do that. I tend to save long posts that way, since sometimes the back button won’t retrieve it, and other times my malicious computer decides to attack.
I don’t have acess to Firefox at work, but I do at home, and I didn’t know about that. Thanks for the tip.
Papa?
Dang! Then it was true!
I kept trying to post at the same time, but kept receiving this message:
Now that was funny! Welcome IntelInside!
Oh my…now I’m flashing on the “What should my daughtetr call my cousin” thread

I suppose I should start doing this routinely, as it also affords me an opportunity to spell-check. I like having the coding tools available in the window, and the jumping about from app. to app. gets annoying, though. I suppose it still musst be less annoying than watching posts disperse into the aether as yet another fucking “This page cannot be displayed, biotch!” rewards my effort.

Work   No, you use that time to read the Questions on the main page and if it still isn’t up you check out weird earls.
Work

As long as it’s not grandpa, I think you’re ok. Hmm, but what if your daughter is her own grandpa? I’d better call Emily Post on this one…
Just saw this thread and thought I’d put in my two cents. I actually started a thread about this in ATMB forum asking if anyone else was having this problem. Lately I’ve been having a hell of a time loading pages and especially posting. About half the time when I attempt to post I get an error saying the web site could not be found. Luckily I usually copy my posts first (from the bad old days :)), so once I get back in to the repy window I can simply paste my post back in and try again. I have had a few posts eaten though in the past few weeks when I failed to do this.
Hopefully they are just having some short term problems and things will be back to normal soon. The board HAD been running fairly well, at least for the last year or so (with a few frustrating exceptions).

Goddamit, I’m tired of this. I tried to open a thread this morning. Thirty-four fucking attempts across a 15 minute time span.
…
And it took me another 5 minutes just to get this window open to post the pit message. And I’ll bet that when I hit Submit, it will blow out several times before it goes in.

WTF?
WTF?
Because of course, once you’re a customer for too long, you no longer have the right to complain about bad service.
Every now and then I get a message that my IP address has been blocked.
But my ISP provides dynamic IP addresses, so SOMEbody’s been abusing the ISP, but it sure ain’t me!
