Yeah, that’s all great when you’re not trans, not gay, not black or muslim or latinx, or those who couldn’t afford insurance. I’m sympathetic to the fact that people don’t like Hillary. Fine. The establishment sucks? Totally agree, but don’t ever take the moral high ground by endangering peoples livelihoods just to send a message for some perverted “ends justify the means” scenario.
You don’t like that your guy lost? Then work with the Democratic establishment to change the process from the inside over time. Campaign early. Form local progressive chapters to GOTV in the primaries for the next election cycle. This isn’t the Mafia and you’re not the Godfather, don’t send people messages by decapitating their horse and throwing it in their bed. Send a sternly worded letter like a regular person.
Do you not think I tried? Because I did. I tried that tired-ass “work with the establishment” mess. Up to volunteering almost every dayum day for Wendy Davis back in '14. The Democratic establishment 'round these parts showed me through their actions they don’t so much as see me as a human being with value. Fuck 'em.
Then you voted for the wrong candidate, dumbass. Hope you enjoy spending the rest of your life as a third-class citizen, because that’s what your “slap-in-the-face to the Democratic establishment” is going to get you.
So how would people on the ACA, women who need abortions, American Muslims and other non Christians, and institutions that worked against Trump be “equally screwed” under Clinton? That’s the part that has never made sense to me.
Actually, there is one other: with a Trump win, why would it be irrational for the “establishment” to conclude that the people wants what Trump voters want, and act accordingly?
And I’m trans and bi (oh yeah, hi SDMB, this is my first time saying that here). Do you know how many friends I have around the US tonight who are seriously considering detransitioning because of this? That’s not even counting my many friends of other various religious, ethnic, and sexual minorities who are despondent and concerned in various ways. Or my friend who just got diagnosed with a thyroid issue because of her Obamacare and now is worried she won’t be able to keep her insurance and won’t be able to get it treated.
We’ve elected someone whose vice president believes in gay conversion therapy. We’ve elected a congress with the ability to pass mandatory conversion therapy laws if they got it in their heads.
Learn basic fucking political science. Learn game theory. That’s not how first past the post voting systems work.
Your hands are soaked with the blood of all the people who are going to die needlessly because you enabled a Trump victory, just like your fellow useful idiots did when they voted Nader and handed the country to Bush.
You failed to do your most fundamental patriotic duty to vote for someone who has the best interests of the American people in mind. You’re to blame for the consequences.
I’m already a “third-class citizen”. Always have been. Despite my best efforts, I’ve been relegated to persona non grata amongst both my fellow black people (“he acts ‘too white’”) and amongst the other gays (most gays missed the memo that they’re no longer in high school).
I ain’t the only black and/or gay guy who has been done this way and who refused to support Clinton. I know several others who voted for Stein, as well as one who voted for Trump, and another who wrote in Soltysik.
Hell, I’ll freely admit that part of my decision was to teach those assholes a lesson, too. The elite transcends race, sexuality, et cetera - they needed a lesson about leaving people out for no fucking reason just as much as the party high-ups needed the same damn thing. You throw people off the bus just for kicks; don’t be surprised when certain people you did wrong pull out knives and slash the tires. You made us walk with our luggage; you gonna be made to do the same damn thing.
It ain’t like things’d have gotten any better with Clinton in office - which is what y’all’re acting like.
