I pit the USA

You’re absolutely right. There were nearly 60 million of them stupid enough to vote for Hillary Clinton.

I just heard. What the fuck, you guys. What. The. Fuck.

Between this, Brexit and that Philippino nutcase, I dub 2016 the Year of the Retard. The morons are officially taking over. Pucker up, it’s going to be a looong century.

Another advocate of the Scorched Earth policy here.

It will also be interesting to see how well the Republicans can benefit from their mandate which isn’t a mandate.

Trump isn’t a political master like LBJ–how will he make the various Republican factions do his bidding? How will the “regular” Republicans who barely managed to suppress their contempt for Their Candidate get along with him? The Teabaggers? The Bible Thumpers? His new pals on the alt-Right? Strange bedfellows, indeed…

Trump doesn’t care about policy. He will be content to strut and preen and let Paul Ryan pass whatever he wants and declare everything a success.

To him it might just be different flavors of fucked. The Hillary wing of the Democratic party have gotten so cozy with big money that there is not enough of a difference to make a difference to many people.

One might argue that she and the Democrats have had decades to implement those helpful proposals and didn’t do it. Why should he believe that Clinton would do it THIS time around?

So, wait… Hillary is “the good” in this scenario?

They need 60 votes in the senate to overturn Obamacare.

How does last night’s election prevent legal abortions?

We didn’t destroy the constitution last night. We just elected a horribly unqualified candidate.

I am depressed as shit that Trump won but the world won’t end. Don’t dump on people because they voted in a way you don’t like. There are checks and balances in place. We didn’t elect a king last night we elected a president.

The checks and balances will all be tipped to the right.

C. M. Kornbluth would be proud of himself, if he wouldn’t also simultaneously be utterly appalled that his prediction came true.

Sure, but she’s, yanno. Sane.

Skimming this thread I came across this … perhaps the most ignorant post I’ve ever seen at SDMB. It does contain its own self-description which I’ve highlighted.

To prepare a point-by-point rebuttal would be like engaging a stinking but inert mound of dog shit in debate, so I’ll just echo Mr. Cadet’s comment:

**You fucking idiot.

You complete fucking idiot.**

So do you go screaming in people’s faces what “complete fucking idiots” they are, like the post above this one? Doubtful, because you’d shortly be missing several teeth. “The Courage of the Keyboard” indeed.

I tell Republicans that their policies are based on fear and ignorance and that I think they are racists. Like I said, I won’t start the political conversation, but if they start it, I will say my piece. If hearing criticism causes them to commit violence, that would prove my point. I find most conservatives are pretty much pussies when cut off from the herd.

I’m satisfied. Trump was not my first choice, but Hillary is a loathsome person.

But see here, it’s not just the democrats who will be getting a “lesson.” The republicans (and others who either voted for him or threw away their vote for whatever reason) are about to reap the so-called benefits of their actions too… when Trump only serves Trump. When he doesn’t bring about more jobs, abolishes the minimum wage, when world relations are gutted, when The Wall doesn’t really get built due to default in payments (like he’s done to all his own contractors) and whatever deportation measures pass result in higher costs from the only Americans willing to work manual labor jobs, when Roe is overturned and their loved ones are now facing horrible health decisions, like what will happen once the ACA is repealed, when other countries turn their backs on us, when we see more wars, more self-serving politics that supposedly placate religious beliefs that may no longer be your own, when crime is on the upswing because ‘fringe’ elements are now considered pointless to ‘pander’ to (like gays or minorities or women) and finally, when racism and hatred and sexism and homophobia are allowed to run unchecked. To name some of the possibilities.

But those are not the biggest issues that they’re going to have to deal with during his term and the ramifications (like future Supreme Court justice appointees). No, to me, what the problem will be is what us liberals are facing now. They say we overlooked the disgruntled, the disenfranchised and the ignored. Well, they believe they are the “true America” and they don’t have time for whiny millennials, deviants or thugs. They live in this protected bubble who has not much contact with life of those in the inner cities, with kids growing up that can’t afford cars or to move out of their parent’s home. Minimum wage isn’t on their radar and the block that they can represent (IE: church goers / older / stable / white) is dwindling and fast, with very few picking up the mantle. They’ll get their social security, but these younger folks will not.

So, they’ll have won this battle and we’ll hear what they have to say as they fight to return us to the way things were. But in the interim, the group that’ll be voting after they will have died off, will swing the pendulum so far in the opposite direction, that the USA will be completely unrecognizable to what it is now. Because just like the rest of the planet that now thinks we’re a bunch of reprehensible buffoons who have thrust us into a shit show, they’ll hate us and want absolutely nothing to do with the establishment ever again.

And then it’ll be over. May take longer than 2020, but I hope the people that voted to put us into this position enjoy the fruits of their labor. Because I liken them to those brave souls who fought the last gasp against issuing SSM certificates; they’ll be on the wrong side of history. Of course, we’ll be a mockery to everyone else in the process, but eventually, what’s being done to the younger generation will have it’s comeuppance.

You have certainly done away with any moral high ground you were clinging on to.

Brexit didn’t give the nuclear football to an egomaniacal gameshow host.

To those “angry” Americans who voted for Trump, I hope you get everything you deserve.

MEB, your scorched earth" approach suggestion is understandable, of course, considering how the Republican mantra has officially been “one term President” and stopping Obama in every way. However, you must admit that the American left is too fechless and incompetent to pull such a policy off successfully. Please do keep in mind the American left now has zero majority or much power in any way. Your best hope is to continue to play compromise games and letting the Republicans make America great again.

We lived through Bush with a republican congress and an illegal war and Scalia on the court. We will survive Trump with a Republican congress that doesn’t really seem to like him and an isolationist stance.
